Syria and UN Security Council Decision

Hezbollah of course are helping gun down demonstrators to keep their patron tyrant in power.

Remember the "Gay Girl in Damascus" blogger who delivered the Propaganda last year until he was exposed as an American based in the UK? No? Pay more attention please.

Yeah he turned out to be a leftist Israel-hating bigot. What about it?

What a nasty thread this is.

Disinformation sites cited. Check. Rogue regime supported. Check. Scapegoats found. Check. West trashed. Check.

Hold em off, boys.

I just hope the US doesn't decide to fire its cancer canon at Assad like they did with Chavez. :jaw-dropp

It's rather disappointing that people will side with absolutely anyone who goes against the West simply because they're going against the West, including (or especially) homicidal dictators. Like we're some sort of eternal, unchanging, hamburger-eating hivemind and they're uniting against the xenomorph threat or something.
For ****'s sake, it's not a Cold War style binary choice of "Eat our **** or their **** ", you don't have to eat ****. Think dammit, rather than letting the likes of Russia Today do the thinking for you just because it's easy and they make you feel smart and edgy.

I agree, but it's hard to imagine anyone feeling smart and edgy after watching a healthy dose of Russia Today.

But I know what you mean.

Yes, it's rather disappointing when people think it's just a matter of taking one side or the other.

You quote terrorist newspapers. You're not fooling anyone about who's side you're on.

Haven't read the last pages of this thread.
But here are two points that might be interesting.

Unlike I predicted before, Assad seems to be winning with his tried and tested strategy:
Use massive violence in an unapologetic manner.

I saw a respected Dutch diplomat on TV(sorry forgot name, DDT?) who basically says the Russians and the Chinese are right.
Military intervention will set off the whole ethnic powder-keg in Syria/Lebanon.
Considering the worrying results in post-revolution Libya, WMD's in the cards, a massive civil war brewing, intervention doesn't look like good option at all.
He basically said that tens of thousands of victims are horrible, but not as horrible as hundreds of thousands.

Also, I read an interesting opinion peace by a Dutch war correspondent, who thinks the reporting is way too activist. Whilst Assads forces are obviously involved in war crimes, we don't get the complete picture.
Sunni attacks on Allawites (sp?) are under reported for instance.

Assad is an enemy and the client of our enemy. He needs to be fed to the hogs.

Not at any price IMHO.

You are aware that it was impossible to get a decent cocktail in Beirut for the better part of the 1980's?
Not a situation I'd like to see repeated.

Assad is the one doing the regional destabilizing by exporting terror.

Yes. Yes it is. So why do you do it?

I don't. Why do you do it?

Your post equates being skeptical about the Western military interventionists' "human rights" narrative with being on Assad's "side".

This seems to fit into the category of thinking it's just a matter of taking one side or the other.

I might be new here, but I am perfectly capable of using the search function to read a person's post history, hence that post. I'm not one for futile arguments with brick walls, so i'll let some of the more experienced and/or stubborn debaters have a go.
