Syria and UN Security Council Decision

Several posts dumped to AAH. Just a reminder - the topic is not "How much can I insult people who disagree with me".

What's it called, doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome?

MOSCOW, March 5 (Itar-Tass) —— A new U.S. draft [U.N. Security Council] resolution on Syria is a slightly edited version of the previous vetoed one, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said. ... "needs considerable balancing" .. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that “Russia is still ready to adopt coordinated decisions of the international community on Syria on the basis of the Russian draft resolution of U.N. Security Council”. ... “There is no need to expect each other to take some action. It is necessary to sit down together and decide which steps to take so that the Syrian stop shooting each other” ... “this is what the Russian resolution sought to achieve. It was drafted on the basis of the LAS November initiative that is still on the negotiating table at the U.N. Security Council”. ... When asked why Russia had vetoed the previous U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria, Lavrov said that it “demanded that the regime capitulate and transfer the power to armed people”. ...

The main differences between the Russian proposal and the vetoed one of "the West" are that 1) the Russian one calls for all sides, including the SNC/FSA armed opposition, to stop the violence and 2) that it carefully avoids rhetoric which could be used and abused for NATO intervention like happened in Libya.

So if "the West" honestly cares about the fate of Syrian civilians, now is the time to acknowledge the situation instead of hanging on to their false narrative of "the dictator is killing civilians" and negotiate like adults in an international diplomatic body should do to move forward with something that is indeed supported by a truely international community.

If they fail to do so and continue to act like spoiled children calling everybody "disgusting" if they don't get their will, they will show that their goals are indeed purely geostrategical with regime change at all costs and the road to Tehran in mind. And then they'll have to do it without the figleaf of the "international community", which would further damage the international relationships and, as experience shows, lead to no good.

If on the other hand a serious resolution reflecting the real situation could be negotiated, Russias influence could and would be very helpful to resolve to situation.

Assad should make a hasty exit to Iran if he knows what's good for him.

Sorry, Assad must stay. We need him to stand up to "western imperialism". Syrians will continue to be murdered, raped and tortured but that's a small price to pay.

Fearful of a nuclear Iran? The real WMD nightmare is Syria
Possibly the bigger concern of the West regarding the al-Assad regime. Justifiably so.

You should send the article to the regime-change-at-all-costs and lets-further-arm-the-terrorists ideologues in "the West".

While it is uncertain whether the Syrian regime would consider using WMD against its domestic opponents, Syrian insurgents, unlike many of their Libyan counterparts, are increasingly sectarian and radicalized; indeed, many observers fear the uprising is being "hijacked" by jihadists. Terrorist groups active in the Syrian uprising have already demonstrated little compunction about the acquisition and use of WMD. In short, should Syria devolve into full-blown civil-war, the security of its WMD should be of profound concern, as sectarian insurgents and Islamist terrorist groups may stand poised to seize chemical and perhaps even biological weapons.

Was there an actual response in there or more troll bait? Would be great if all those partaking in this thread can have a meaningful debate, even if we disagree with eachother.

What did you expect? It's an intelligent article addressing a serious problem. I don't have much to disagree on, maybe a few side remarks on Libya. Maybe this topic is one of the reasons why your buddies in Israel seem to be not on the bellicose forefront of this mess. It could cause a major backlash for them, like for the whole region, if the terrorists get their hands on the stuff.

Concerning troll bait, i'm not the right person in this thread to address.

The people doing the disrupting are Truthers and hard-line leftist ideologues. No meaningful discussion can be had with them anyway.

Be careful to not believe anything at face value.
They link to a video that says "Danny the Zionist".
Does the label change anything about the content?

That leaked video of CNN's favorite "activist" "Danny" preparing to go on Anderson Cooper made the rounds on the net so much that Cooper actually felt the need to ask "Danny" about it:

Should be deleted he says, invades his privacy. Admits that he is just reporting numbers fed to him (most likely by the discredited "Syrian Observatory of Human Rights" run by a Snack shop owner in London, or similar outlets) without being on the ground at all. Denies strawman of being directly payed by CNN.

Remember the "Gay Girl in Damascus" blogger who delivered the Propaganda last year until he was exposed as an American based in the UK? No? Pay more attention please.

Syria: Game Over for Western Propaganda

[...] The West has lost all moral authority - authority that only billions of dollars in manipulative media and military supremacy can buy - but is easily lost as the facade begins to crumble. How many more Syrian "Danny's" or "Gay Girls in Damascus" are there, staging interviews, fabricating body-counts, and attempting to manipulate the good intentions of millions around the world? How long will the West attempt to convince the world that the Syrian rebels, admittedly armed, admittedly carrying out their own growing list of atrocities, and clearly infiltrated by Al Qaeda terrorists, are worthy of US diplomatic support, funding, training, weapons, and even US airpower?

Most importantly, how long are people going to allow themselves to be lied to, their intelligence insulted, before they decide to speak out, and commit to sanctioning with boycotts the corporations driving this agenda? [...]

That's just the beginning. He's an Alex Jones gasbag and, of course, a Paultard. Par for the course.

Why not start quoting some Neo-Nazi papers? Childlike is a big fan of Russia which is the Neo-Nazi capital of the world. There must be some great papers and websites to quote from.
