Moon Hoax conspiracy

You haven't destroyed anything. You claimed there was no temperature in space.
To be fair, it would be closer to say that space has no temperature. objects in space do, but there's no quick and easy way to calculate it. Two objects an inch apart may have radically different temperatures. To do it properly you need some pretty involved mathematical analysis.

There is no conducted heat in a vacume.

Its a vacuum. And kookbreaker claimed there was no temperature. Total rubbish. There would be a temperature even if it was close to absolute zero.

What do you think happens in a vacuum to a thermometer?

Umm temperature is the movement of particles. a vacume kinda lack particles.

What do you think happens in a vacuum to a thermometer?

By defintion once you have introduced a thermometer you no longer have a vacume. Assumeing vacume of infinite volume then the thermometer would radate heat untill it hit zero after an infinte time (well kinda quantum makes that messy).

So what a thermometer would read is how you define temperature then?

In 1969 computer chips had not been invented. The maximum computer memory was 256k, and this was housed in a large air conditioned building. In 2002 a top of the range computer requires at least 64 Mb of memory to run a simulated Moon landing, and that does not include the memory required to take off again once landed. The alleged computer on board Apollo 11 had 32k of memory. That's the equivalent of a simple calculator.

The computer on Apollo was intended for guidance. Punch in the numbers and it will get you pointed in the right direction and do related things such as controlling the engines. Very specialized and just what the program needed. There was no need for a "simulation" to be run on the onboard computer system. All the heavy grunt work was done on mainframes back on earth. None of that heavy lifting was done onboard.

It should be remembered that NASA had a pretty blank check on getting the needed hardware so getting a one-off piece of specialized hardware that wouldn't be commercially viable would not be a concern. It should also be remembered that computers nowadays tend to be general purpose with operating system bennies that make them (hopefully) easier to operate and do many different tasks that are not necessarily related. That takes lots of computing power and memory to be that versatile.

Oh, this just gets better all the time.

Heat is also transmitted via waves.

What temperature would the thermometer show?

Are you saying that the astronauts were not in a vacuum?

If we put a thermometer in darkest space, with absolutely nothing around, it would first have to cool off. This might take a very very long time. Once it cooled off, it would read 2.7 Kelvin. This is because of the "3 degree microwave background radiation." No matter where you go, you cannot escape it -- it is always there.

Waves of what? It's a vacuum.

I forgot who said it, but I'll paraphrase: "The only thing that could have been harder than going to the moon would have been faking going to the moon."

Heat is also transmitted via waves.

Nope. Energy is transmitted via EM radation. When this interacts with matter the result may be heat.

What temperature would the thermometer show?

What was the intial temp of the thermometer? what is it made from? after what time period?

Are you saying that the astronauts were not in a vacuum?

They were surrounded by a vacuum

Recently discovered video shows NASA staging part of the Apollo 11 mission. The astronauts, who never left low Earth orbit, used a camera trick to make viewers think that they were seeing a round Earth on their TV screens.

This claim can be credited to Bart Sibrel, who is more than happy to sell you (for a profit) this "never before seen footage" in his so-called documentary A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Moon. I have recently viewed this video and find it to be a horrible example of journalism. Sibrel simply beats us over the head with his own interpretation and conclusions while not providing any evidence or data that would permit the viewer to evaluate Sibrel's claims or formulate an independent opinion. The purpose of the video is not to inform the viewer, but rather to manipulate. The NASA video to which he refers is neither "never before seen" nor evidence of fraud. Despite Sibrel's billing that this footage is the "smoking gun", very little of it is actually shown and that which is shown is highly edited and voiced over with commentary. The alleged "camera trick" is simply a figment of Bart Sibrel's imagination as there is nothing seen to suggest the slightest foul play on the part of NASA. Jim McDade, in his Web page The Apollo Hoax Conspiracy, provides a very professionally debunking of Bart Sibrel's claims. I invite you to give it a read.
Unfortunately the link is to Jim McDade's page is broken.

Hrm, that's what I get for being interrupted before posting and going ahead later on. Anyway, that was in response to the astronauts talking about hoaxing pictures comments way earlier. Basically a short out of context piece of video with the narrator talking over most of it. The page linked to has a list of about every claim I can ever recall seeing about the moon landings being hoaxed and short responses to each. Others have already mentioned www.badastronomy.com which has a bulletin board with numerous experts on the subject.

The Space Shuttle, so far, has killed fourteen people, merely trying to attain an orbit about two hundred fifty miles above the Earth. How is it then, that a third of a century ago, with less computing power in the entire rocket than in a present day twenty dollar Wal-Mart watch, NASA claims to have gone 100,000% farther, six different times between 1969 and 1972, landing on another celestial body and then returning, without ever killing anyone?

NASA makes no such claim. The Apollo program claimed three lives. (source). Another three men barely survived. (source). A higher percentage of Apollo missions ended in failure than Space Shuttle missions and a similar percentage of Apollo astronauts died as Space Shuttle astronauts (about 8%).

The definition of a troll is a person whose entire goal is to stir up trouble rather than engage in debate. Since you have shown no willingness to consult the sources referred to by other members and since you have quickly switched arguments whenever one point seems to be going badly for you, I have no trouble calling you a troll.

My contribution to this thread may be seen in the thread tags at the top of this page.
