What's going to be his fallback? At the time he stated Harbor City had been issued an SBLC by various banks including Deutsche Bank, "He believed it to be true. But Mr. Santos later determined that it was not true."

If Santos is reminded, despite saying he was "unaware" of any accusations of fraud, there is documented proof that he was made aware. Fallback? "I'm sorry I don't remember that."

Santos has said "consistently" that Fatima Devolder, his mother, was at work in her office at World Trade Center when it came under attack on 9/11. But the New York Times reports a review of immigration records creates doubt that the story is true.

In an application for a visa to enter the United States filed in 2003, Ms. Devolder said that she had left the country for Brazil in June 1999 and had not returned since. In earlier paperwork filed in June 2001, three months before the attacks, Ms. Devolder said that she had been unable to return to the United States since 1999 because her green card had been stolen in Brazil.
