Nothing to see here at this convention. Just like the republicans, it is an election and there are opposition candidates. Some of each stuck with their candidate. So what, that is how elections work.

The party bosses had their own ideas of who they wanted in, no surprises there from democrats or republicans. The DNC email dump is a bunch of white noise. Election hoo-rah. The emails that count are the ones she deleted from her State Department job, ie "Hello House of Saud, here are your jets and bombs to kill Yemenis, have the money in the Clinton Foundation by 5 pm. Thx."

Kind of a formality on Hillary's side, she has been the presumptive nominee for well over a year. Nobody would run against her. So frumpy old Bernie, the socialist standard bearer does a token cameo performance. He was sick of emails before the debates even started. He steered clear of her awful Secretary of State record - such an easy target - and capitulated in the end, endorsing her.

So finally we get to see an actual contest for Hillary. Trump cleaned the republican's clocks in his primary. The problem with a coronation, with Bernie not challenging the emails, the Clinton foundation, Bill's sexual assaults and Hillary's victimization of the women afterwards - she has not fielded any defense to what Trump will rain down upon her.

So you didn't notice then that the bulk of people with good things to say about Trump were his kids and his plagiarist wife, while Clinton has had three days so far of person after person from the little guy to her colleagues that include some pretty incredible people with nothing but praise for her accomplishments and what she's done for them?

Interesting tunnel vision and blinders you have on there.

I was surprised to see how much the pressure of the primaries has aged Clinton.

You have no knowledge of the actual "left" do you? The progressives have been backing Democrats since Roosevelt's era. Those who are at the convention are merely modern progressives. They're not socialists and don't understand the difference between the Democratic Socialists and from whence they originated versus the Socialist Workers. They know nothing of the socialist/communist movement in the USA and are merely representative of a shift back to the progressive standards that the party used to stand for.

The Dems have always had their vote. The lunatic fringe like myself who usually voted radical third party were an extreme minority. The shift to the middle under Carter, Clinton and Obama is what they're fighting against.

It's not a question of never having their vote... it's a question, to Bernie and his more aligned supporters, of what the party needs to do to re-affirm their support.

And, once again, that's a small faction. The majority of Sanders' supporters are voting Hillary. Unlike the uneducated on the right who vote for Republicans who will keep them in their lower middle class strata, progressives are not stupid enough to vote against their best interests. When the post convention polls are out, I'm going to be pretty certain that the Bernie voter bloc will be at +/- eighty per cent voting Democrat.

Which supports what I said. The Bernie or bust group would by definition be that remaining 20%. I don't know how many of them voted for Obama.

No. The remaining percentage when the dust settles will be the ones who were never going to support her anyway. The point is that Hillary's supporters in the primaries against Obama also swore they'd never vote for him because he'd slain the dragonette. They came out for Obama, but not in as large numbers at this stage as Bernie's supporters are already coming out for Hillary.

My point was more to your idea that without Bernie the Dems never had the progressives. It's just plain wrong. The debacle of the McGovern candidacy was the last great gasp of the progressive wing, but they were the dominant force in the party for forty years.

What the **** is wrong with those *********** scumbags?
They also prepared the statement in advance as it went out during Obama's speech. It's more of the I know you are but what am I strategy Donald likes.

It's always projection.

In any event, isn't Obama the outgoing president? What, exactly, is he supposed to be proposing in what is really his farewell address, aside from pointing out that America's great, and that Trump is a particularly scummy person?

A cursory glance at Hillary's and Trump's websites shows that Hillary has vastly more detailed positions, on far more issues, than Trump. This one's not even close - even if we include Trump's stupid wall.

One thing that I would LOVE to see happen at the convention is for them to play a video that juxtaposes Andrew Shepherd's speech from An American President with snippets from the Republican Convention. You know the speech,

"And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character. And wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them, she's to blame for their lot in life"

Actually, it would be really cool if Michael Douglas could remake it, and substitute "Donald Trump" in for Bob Rumsen, and instead of President's girlfriend, say "former first lady"

Amazingly how prophetic Aaron Sorkin was when he wrote that. And it always amazes me how transparently the GOP is following that trope.

Amazing how he mocks the middle class there... and you think that is a good idea?

'k.

Sorkin is the best.

"An American President"
"A Few Good Men"
"Charlie Wilson's War"
"The West Wing"

Does it get any better?
