I like how Bill Clinton had to spend an entire convention speech just trying to convince people that Hillary is a human being. Most candidates, that goes without saying. Most candidates, their opening speakers can take that established fact for granted and build on it.
But not the DNC this year. Not the best orator the Democrats have produced in a generation. Nope. Bill Clinton had to devote all his not inconsiderable talents to making sure that Hillary's supporters remember that she's human.
You like that, do you? You must've loved the fact that even having his family try to sell us on Trump's membership in the human race, they couldn't actually come up with any examples other than the now trademarked, "Believe me...". Sonny boy's fondest memories of his dad's influence seem to involve a probably-invented-for-the-purpose forklift driver named "Vinnie". His daughter remembers fondly playing with LEGO in dad's office. No one remembers "dad". Not when they fell down and scraped their knees, the nannies took care of that. Not when they were graduating grammar school, nor high school nor college. Dad was out screwing someone on a real estate deal.
What I've heard in three days is a raft of speakers referring to "my friend, Hillary". Now, you or I or any individual is quite free to say, "well, that's their choice, but I don't like her". But did anyone come along to speak on behalf of their "friend, Donald Trump"? He doesn't have friends; he has business associates, employees, former partners and family. None of them said "friend".
You know who else didn't have friends, don't you?
ETA: Clinton is far from the best orator the party has produced in the last generation. Jessie Jackson, Mario Cuomo, Barack Obama, etc... There have been numerous great speakers on the Democratic side. The big shock in the elections they lost in the past thirty years is that they nominated people who missed that mark by so far.
