No, I wasn't talking about specific current events. I was objecting to the generalizations that protests are useless (unless you can see the future and only do the protests that work out effectively) and that protestors should shut up and compromise to whatever the person objecting to the protests wants because that's the "mature" thing to do.

Even if I hadn't already resolved myself to voting for Hilary I wouldn't consider Stein. She'd just be another flawed candidate I'd end up voting for.

Stein has a commercial playing in WA, not sure where else. It's pure BS, everyone gets a free pony, no one pays. It's all of Sanders' promises without the caveat, 'but we need a giant movement to do it.'

I think we now have the answer to the OP:

I never said that protests were useless only if they have immediate tangible results, but protests that are counterproductive are useless.

Protests have to be focused on one issue. You protest for women's suffrage; you protest for black civil rights; you protest against the Vietnam War; etc. Those protests have the capability of being successful if enough people support your cause.

But you don't protest for a whole policy package. That is utterly useless, because you can't attain that goal. Those protests of the Bernie brothers at the DNC were useless. Hillary had won the primaries, those were the rules, end of story.

But if you're passionate about one policy issue - let's say UHC (universal health care) - by all means, organize people around it and organize protests for that cause. That can bring pressure on Washington lawmakers to enact UHC.

And frankly, I don't see the contradiction between doing that and voting for Hillary come 8 November, even though she has not taken on UHC in her platform. When you cast your ballot, you cast that ballot for a whole policy package, and you have to weigh which candidate conforms most to your views. They're two different choices. I don't see the contradiction between choosing a candidate who doesn't support your favourite policy issue and at the same time protesting for that issue.

Evidently Bradley Cooper is a Democrat and was at the DNC in Philly - his home town. Fans of American Sniper can't believe he'd play the role of a national hero - and noted fabulist - and not actually be a Republican.

I love the comment that the reporter is concerned what they'll do when they find out he's not actually a gun-toting rocket-piloting raccoon.

One of the most amazing things about the past few weeks in this election is how the Democrats have managed to "dish the Whigs" by stealing the Patriotic issue away from the GOP.

Drama of various levels occupies most of the middle to some degree.

Speaking only for myself, I much prefer politics when it is farther toward the Comedy end of the spectrum.
