Merged Trump shot in PA??

That's the most bonkers part of this to me. It's such an obvious place for a gunman, how do you not put somebody up there if you are providing security? It's a pretty good vantage point for observation, why not put an agent up there just to watch the crowd?

And, at the very same short time (15 minutes? 30? 10?) that this most obvious place would presumably be among the top five spots warranting SS coverage but for whatever so far unexplained reason isn’t this time, a nut carrying a gun chooses to take the extreme, ultra-dramatic path in his life of killing one of the handful of most famous people in the world and, either by advance planning or chance, is able to walk past some sort of LE presence or civilian individual or two in the general vicinity and climb to the roof where he calmly gets situated and, even though now starting to be discovered, fires off a few shots?

I am in no way suggesting any sort of conspiracy, but the sequence of events along with their direct or indirect participants is pretty remarkable.

Makes you wonder if similar events take place nearly constantly, but are swiftly and successfully thwarted by the SS so we never learn of them.

There a phrase that escapes me right now, where an emergency happens but people are slow to really be the first to admit it. Like a fire starts in a building, the alarm goes off, and people are slow to move to the exits even as it becomes apparent that this is a real, clearly dangerous fire.

It goes by de minimis thinking, or the de minimis effect. This is a mainstay topic in forensic engineering, when we often have to look at operator action and reaction that seems to deny the severity of what's happening. Another example is how the Apollo 13 flight controllers spent precious minutes operating under the belief that what they were seeing was instrumentation failure.

But yes, the gist of it is exactly as you've outlined: when something terrible is happening, people want to believe the least severe explanation, and will often even filter new information according to the "no big deal" initial hypothesis.

Whatever his other motives may have been, it looks to me as though this was suicide by Secret Service. Crooks had to have known that, once he started shooting, his life expectancy would be measured in seconds.

As to why Crooks decided to die shooting at a Republican instead of a Democrat, it might in part have been a matter of convenience and timing. Trump was holding an outdoor rally within driving distance. Biden was not. It is possible, however, that Crooks had some fantasy in which he would escape alive. He is reported to have rigged an explosive device in his car, to be triggered by a device in his pocket. He knew he'd have to be alive to reach into his pocket. We might never learn whether he planned to use an explosion to cover his escape, or simply to go out with a bang.

I have to say that the same thought crossed my mind: it was an opportunity that presented itself to a mentally disturbed young man seeking attention and infamy and not politically motivated.

I also wonder if he rigged his car thinking that, if he did manage to get to it and the police chased him, he could blow up himself and possibly anyone approaching him. We may never know.

The Democrat party is still the party of Bill Clinton, unless I'm mistaken. Sexual Morality is a box you shouldn't be standing on. As I recall Biden has had accusers of sexual misconduct as well.

I have never claimed Trump to be virtuous or pure. I never will. He's not. I'm not interested in Trump "the man", I'm interested in Trump "the President" and his economic policies. Those in the US living paycheck to paycheck are currently suffering, even if you're not.

Let's face it, you're another angry Democrat and you can't lash out at Trump so you simply lash out at his supporters. Unfortunately for you, I'm not one that can be swayed by lies, spin and misdirection. The truth is a powerful ally.

So back to plotting how you intend to subvert Democracy by attempting to remove Biden from his candidacy all in the name of "protecting Democracy". While I wait for another batch of popcorn from the microwave.

Damn. There goes another batch of irony meter exploding.

Fascinating... Well, I am (financially struggling) and it is pretty clear to me that Trump is the antithesis of any one who gives one rat's behind about the workers in this country. His only accomplishment in his first term was cutting taxes for the rich and he is famous for not paying taxes while getting fat and wealthy. The extreme wealth gap increased exponentially under Trump which is why morons like Elon worship him. What happened to Trumps prediction of a market collapse under Biden? I know who my financial advisors, hardcore fiscal conservatives, wanted to win in 2020 and likely again in 2024--cause they gave me their economic forecast. Almost every economic marker favors Biden. Trump is incapable of feeling empathy for anyone "suffering" for any reason whatsoever--his whole being revolves around self worship. So either you've been brainwashed, or you're lying.

I agree.

I heard JD Vance claim at the R convention that Trump gave us a great economy during his presidency as Vance tried to excuse his earlier very harsh criticisms of Trump. The truth is, Trump inherited a healthy economy from Obama. It's this kind of revisionist history that Trump supporters fall for because it's what they WANT to believe. It helps them ignore what a disgusting human being Trump is and justify their support for him.

It's tradition. Trump claims to be a financial genius based on the fortune he inherited from his father.

I don't have any problem with her declining to speak to Biden.
For one thing, her husband just died, so I feel like any decision she makes now is necessarily coloured by emotions. Also, if I were in her position and that previous guy tried calling me, I'd probably decline as well. I think it's harsh to judge her on this.

I agree. I'd NEVER talk to Trump for any reason. He repels me beyond belief.

Oh, it's explained. The explanation given is stupid as ****, but an explanation has indeed been proffered.

“That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof” - Kimberly Cheatle

This woman needs to be fired.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. So yeah, probably not a conspiracy, but incompetence in a job like this should get you **** canned, real fast.

Every single U.S. president who has ever served in office has been [check notes] a flawed human being, like the rest of us. Politicians especially have to make sausage, which isn't a pretty process. Furthermore, a significant portion of people who enter a profession in which power is exercised are people who like to exercise power (go figure). And power corrupts.

But that doesn't mean that all politicians are equally flawed as people or as politicians. I can grant you support of Trump for the policies you believe in, but at some point the list of a politician's flaws overrides the policy congruence. And Trump's list is pretty spectacular.

I agree 100%. Trying to overturn a legitimate election by claiming it was rigged and stolen in order to retain power isn't a personality flaw. It's rightly and accurately called a threat to our very democracy. Calling it was it is isn't inflammatory rhetoric or a call to violence. It's identifying and recognizing a fact.

If true, it will be interesting to see if the cops "stand behind" one of their own. Or does that only happen when they are abusing minorities?

That's wonderful!

By the way, one thing about that article stood out:

Trump, meanwhile, authorized a GoFundMe campaign for the victims of the shooting

Why exactly does Trump have to "authorize" it? And why bother with a GoFundMe page if Trump is a (supposed) billionaire? Can't he just give the victims money from his own pocket?

Because it can be used as campaign propaganda. This was not Trump's idea as he obviously can't even be bothered to call the guy's widow.

"On Saturday, Meredith O'Rourke, a senior Trump adviser and the national finance director of his 2024 presidential campaign, launched a "President Trump Authorized" GoFundMe page in support of the victims and their families. The fundraising effort aimed to reach a goal of $1 million, but as of Sunday evening has smashed that, surpassing $2.8 million.

The donation site has received over 37,000 individual donations. Notable top donations of $50,000 have come from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, singer Kid Rock, and from The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy donated $30,000.

True.
What about one clearly marked drone? Then, should a second one show up, ….

That might work. I mean I don't intend to sound like a "see, here's what you do..." sort of armchair expert - I'm in no way an expert on the subject. But it seems obvious that we've entered an era of drone warfare, and drone terrorism can't be far behind. I know there are already people think-tanking counter tactics against drones. (One of the more interesting ones I've seen is a strong, extremely fast drone that basically clobbers a target drone out of the air.) I'm sure security services around the world are going to have to learn through trial and error, and occasional disasters, how to meet the challenge of drone attacks. But this is probably drifting off subject, so I'll leave it at that.
