They were identified and released from the hospital in July:

A retired grandfather and a Marine veteran have been identified as the two people critically injured in the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

James Copenhaver, 74, and David Dutch, 57, were both shot when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire during a Trump rally in the town of Butler

A third man, 50-year-old volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore, was killed in the attack.

Mr Copenhaver. a registered Democrat, has been in a critical but stable condition at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh since the incident.

His family in a statement thanked the public for "the outpouring of support" they have received.

"Jim would like to especially thank the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who have provided him with initial and continuing care," they said.

The family has since requested privacy from "friends, the public and the media", adding they would not be releasing further information on his injuries.

UPDATE: Copenhaver was released from the hospital on July 26.

The second victim, David Dutch, has reportedly undergone a second surgery at Allegheny General Hospital and been taken out of an induced coma.

UPDATE: David Dutch, 57, was discharged on July 19 , Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh said.
