I went into town today to meet some friends for a coffee.
It was pretty scary. I had to walk about 10 minutes to get there down this narrow street. There were these... vehicles .. blasting past me at almost 30 miles an hour and all that separated me from them was the fact that the area I was walking on was [i/i]six inches[/i] higher than the actual road! six inches!! I swear if I'd stepped off the pavement at the wrong time I'd have been turned into paste. I had to take my mind off things so I spent the walk face-timing Janine with my headphones in. Almost missed Starbucks, you know what she's like, never shuts up.
Anyway I went to the counter and ordered, everyone was sat outside. We were talking about that shooting in the states, you know the one...
Can you believe it, we were in this wide open space. No police, no nothing, anyone could have pulled an AK-15 out of their rucksack and just gone mental. Yeah I head it on the news, the only thing that stops a badguy with a gun is a good guy with a gun! There weren't any good guys in Starbucks, I can tell you.
Not that the police would be much use, they don't even have guns! What if some mental case with AR-47 kicked off. I reckon they should have armed baritsas. Or put a plain clothes policeman on every street corner, one who's armed to the teeth. Reaching for a concealed assault pistol were you? well too late - take some cold hard lead between your eyes...
Oh that was a wallet, you were just trying to pay for your coffee? Carry on...
