There was a thread a day or two ago where someone called Upchurch (a member here) "Uppie". Someone else complained for Upchurch, even though Upchurch himself is okay with the nick name. SJW to the rescue!

Seriously. I'm not giving anyone a hard time, but I'd rather like to know the connotations so I know whether or not it's appropriate to use it in other contexts. FFS, "Brit" is socially acceptable, but "Jap" and "Chink" aren't. Yes, I know they're short for country names, I get that... but they still have derisive connotations, and generally are considered rude. I'm not familiar with "norker", and I'd prefer to know.

I don't know any North Koreans I can ask to find out if they're offended. I'm not offended on their behalf, though.

That was me, and for years that has been a positive/affectionate occasional nic I've offered in our on again / off again discussions of a load of different stuff.
I get the feeling that due to the general tone of my posts that someone read/felt a negative undercurrent, which is understandable given the topic at hand. It was brought to my attention, I thought, in a reasonable manner.

THis thread is about the usual noise and bluster that attends things on the Korean Peninsula. The war of words has been going on for quite some time, and it appears to me that Mr Trump is showing how new he is at this game, though IMO he ought to recognize it for what it is: trolling. It's one of his things, to troll people, but at the moment it seems to me that he does not appreciate how he's being trolled.
