How do pagans celebrate Christmas?

:dl:

I usually make a pan gravy, so I can't deep fry. But I should try it

Do you thicken your gravies with corn starch? I find it creates a better appearance, that sort of shimmering, slimy look.

I know that some folks use flour to thicken a gravy, but I can't tolerate wheat products, or Christians (to stay on topic).

I have known a few tasty pagans, but they did not celebrate religious holidays based on imaginary deities.

Well, I did tonite. It's about a 50-50 thing with me, between corn starch and flour. I make sure that the Christians aren't gluten-intolerant (which doens't significantly reduce the total number of things that they are intolerant of).

I've known a few Pagans who did, in fact, worship deities<--notice the plural.

New age beliefs. Now I know that's not OK. Being convicted of being involved in the occult type stuff. Going to phsycics, reading my horoscopes, believing those types things are bad!
HOLY CHICKEN, Fowl, I think we've discovered a very small patch of common ground here.

Well, Pagan is such a broad term, even outside of the Christian definition, which is nearly synonymous with heathen... while I guess the most common association now is with Wicca, there's plenty of non-Wiccan nature worshippers, believers in old gods, pantheists. A lot of people consider Catholics pagan because of the reverence given saints.

EDIT: spelling

When you compare your reasons for disliking/distrusting these practices with K_K's, I'm sure that common patch will shrink significantly ;)

... just a gut feeling I've got ;) :p

You must have a good gut. We might have other similarities. I predict that KK eats food, breathes air and is a 30' tall Biomechanoid. Ok, maybe not that middle one.

"I used to be a pagan, then I found Jesus," "I used to be Catholic, then I found Jesus..." What's next, she used to be Muslim?

I think her belief is that Catholics are pagans as well. This leads me to believe that she's one of those special people that believes Jerry Falwell.

It would be useful to know what flavor of fundamentalism she follows... she doesn't really tell us much about where she's coming from or describe her beliefs in any greater detail than: JESUS!!!!!!!!!11!!!!1 LOVE!!!!!1!!1 LOVE JESUS!!!11!! OR ELSE HELLFIRE!!!!1!!

We'll sit around the tree singing our favorite Christmas song...

Here comes Fatty and his sack of sh1t,
Here comes Fatty and his sack of sh1t,
Here comes Fatty and his sack of sh1t,
And all them stinkin' reindeer....

"I used to be a Christian, then I discovered Jesus!"

Well, somebody had to say it!

Oh, and thank you Ursula for the great image - all hail the glorious Chicken - clearly a prophet of the great FSM!

No that's not next. As a pagan I was too open to everything. New age beliefs. Now I know that's not OK. Being convicted of being involved in the occult type stuff. Going to phsycics, reading my horoscopes, believing those types things are bad! But it was because I considered being spiritual was ok for all types of wrong beliefs. anyway I'll tell you more after Christmas...Still a few gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and food to celebrate with my family and freinds. At least I had the decorating done last week. Tis the season to be happy and share with the ones you love!!

I used to be Christian. Catholic then Born Again. I then tried other religions, and even the New Age - check out my monicker.

Kathy, religion offers comfort, and that's the only reason you are on this forum, to offer yourself comfort. If you were in Saudi Arabia, you'd be Muslim.

It is possible for us to be skeptical and comfortable with the fact that there quite possibly is no god. Your limited approach is an embarrasment to some of the other Christians on this forum and isn't going to make any difference to us skeptics whatsoever.

and most likely of the hatable sort who advocates every single repressive, backward, and cruel rules and policies ...

"Experts that are Christians"? By that, I assume you mean biologists who are also Christians. There are quite a few, but I'm afraid they are overwhelmingly evolutionists. So, that leaves us at a puzzlement: what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks do you mean by this assertion? Please both explain and back it up with detailed citations. We'll get to your other assertions later.
kurious_kathy,

Wow, kathy, somehow you managed to miss this post of mine. Can't figure out how you missed it, but I thought I'd re-post it for you to be sure you see it and address it this time. Your name is writ large so as to facilitate your spotting it this time.

Incorporating some butter at the last moment into the gravy gives it a wonderful silky appearance and texture

Sadly it would no longer be vegan, and thus not suitable for my gluten-free vegan diet. But I wonder if margarine might achieve the same effect?

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

Maybe I'll add margarine to a gravy as a part of a Pagan Celebration!

Rule number one of cookery. Never use margrine. Never. Ever. I can't stress this enough. Margerine is one of the worst things to cook with. Ever. It totally ruins the flavor of the carefully aged Christian meat. I mean, what's the point of going through all the pain and anguish to properly slaughter, dress and age the Christian if you're just gonna destroy it with oleo?

I hang my head in shame. In SHAME even. I weep for you. <sniff>
