How do pagans celebrate Christmas?

Here's the problem, Kathy:

You come here and preach, which is done SOLELY in your own power. You belittle people who have suffered, in some cases, people who have suffered far more than you. You are rude to those who question you. You have little regard for the feelings of those you offend.

What value is there in the quote from Galatians for people who see that you are doing exactly the opposite of what Paul told the Church?

I'm waiting for a direct answer. I doubt I'll get one.

KK,

I'm curious too!

What flavour of religion is the "Right One" one that we're supposed to follow?

There must be hundreds of Christian sects, and then if you add the Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists, etc, etc, we're talking thousands of options.

Who's interpretation of the rules is correct? Is slavery OK, like it was in the Old Testament, for example?

Have the Anglicans, Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists got the TRUE FAITH(tm)?

The difficulty I'd have - if I ever felt I needed to "find God" - is in answering those two questions.

I think that research shows that if kids find religion they become Catholic in a Catholic region, Pastafarians in a mainly FSM environment, etc - you see what I'm saying? It's probably a kind of peer pressure. Virtually nobody checks out all varieties before making the final choice. Apart from those who skip from one to another and join the latest "craze" that is.

So - is choosing the first one to come along the correct way to go? Presumably God ought to direct the subconscious mind to make the right choice? Ah, but - there's thousands of possibilities.....

I'd really like to know how you know that God is there for you, too?

Does He talk to you, or do you need to interpret external events so that when anything good happens it's "Praise the Lord for His bounty!", but anything bad is the fault of the neighbours, your boss, the evil gubmint, ans so on.

I would like some honest answers, but if the past is anything to go by I agree with 'Toad's last comment.

Each of us needs to check out what scripture tells us to see if we have sound doctrine. I don't myself like the term religion. I believe all of us who accept Christ words accept God. In this I would say I have discovered we all can have a relationship with God.

There are many theologians that could better answer you inquiries than I...

I just know I believe the New Testament.

What scripture? The KJV, the NIV, etc and what bits of scripture specifically. I mean, if my neighbor is mowing the lawn on Sunday morning and I turn to the ten commandments and it says to keep the seventh day holy and do no work. Should I go preach to my neighbor or do I need to gather up some more TRUE Christians and put a stoning party together. Or should I wait till Monday since, I’m assuming, administering divine retribution would be considered ‘work’.

How do you have a relationship with someone that is never there, can’t answer your questions, can’t pop around for a bit of tea and cake or really do anything at all? Sounds more like you’re saying that you can have a meaningful relationship with the voices in your head.

I just know I believe the New Testament.
All of it or selectively? My money is on selective.

It sounds very much like you only want to believe selectively, just like Ossai wrote.

And - the rest of Ossai's post explains exactly what I would have written if I hadn't been hit by time zones! Very good!

KK - you didn't explain how you would know if God wants you to enter politics - please can you do so now?

Thanks,

Oops! sent the post before I finished - curse these telephones, they'll never catch on, I tell you!

I asked another poster here (sorry, forgot the name) about how s/he knew that God/Jesus was there looking out for her/him.

The most striking reply was that on one occasion s/he was driving in some wilder area and ran out of petrol.

However, before too long another driver came along, with a spare can in his pickup.

Halleluja! More proof of God's existence!

But - it seems to me that coincidence is all that's needed here - the supernatural need not apply.

Occam might suggest that the other driver was local, and being more prudent than my correspondent, made sure that he was better prepared for emergencies.

I also read that many lottery winners praise God, too.

It seems to me that this is a set of screwed-up morals - being omnipotent, so that He can do anything He wants, He gets deeply involved with the relatively trivial, but can't apparently be bothered to save a group of miners trapped underground.

It's sort of annoying, God gets the credit when people do something decent, like help a stranded motorist, but as soon as somebody takes an axe to a busload of nuns, oh, well, it was free will at work!

I want a gig like that.

Agreed!

Maybe we really do need an Atheist religion!

OK - I'll wash my mouth out with soap and water....

(and stand in the corner, and miss my supper)

Isn't that the celestial equilvlant of a Television Weatherman?

I'll join YBW in that corner now.

I don't see that happening at anytime in my life. Why because I haven't ever been involved in politics. Now if things change and I have reason to get more invoved, and feel compelled to I would be open. Although going back to college at my age doesn't seem likely. But I do think we could definately use more women in politics.
