A new investigation for 9/11. Why?

Instead of sharing your uninformed speculation with everyone, why not just go read the petition? It's posted on their website.

Make sure to read the fine print - you'll notice that the budget is 10 million per year, all private funding. You'll also notice this:

"2. An independent, temporary New York City commission (the “Commission”) is hereby created to conduct a comprehensive, fact-driven investigation into the events that took place on 9/11, as well as to thoroughly examine related events before and after the attacks, including any activities attempting to hide, cover up, impede or obstruct any investigation into these 9/11 events, following wherever the facts may lead. The Commission shall publish one or more reports of their findings."
..and this:
"14. The Commission by a majority vote shall have the right, to seek indictments in any relevant Court located in the City of New York, or elsewhere and, at its discretion, to work with existing prosecutorial agencies or to seek the appointment of a special prosecutor under Section 701 of the New York County Law."
..and, finally, this:
16. No New York City employee, past or present, shall have the right to avoid testifying before the Commission based on any prior agreements not to disclose or testify with any officials or agencies of New York City or other governmental agency; the Commission has the power to maintain secrecy and confidentiality of testimony or other disclosures where appropriate.
52,000 signatures.

Who would be on such a commission?
What powers would it have on a national level to subpoena etc?

How would it examine physical evidence that no longer exists?

If it failed to find the mythical truther 'perps' would 9/11 'truth' be satisfied and say 'we were wrong' or would truthers keep up the same lame nonsense for another ten years?
Is there any closure acceptable to truthers other than a complete obedience to truther myth?

etc....

An investigation needs some real purpose, and must have some utility other than simply satisfying the whim of a few citizens. Thus far there is no indictable material to use in any further criminal proceedings, and no real evidence of complicity by the American government.

This would be a pointless exercise - you have no crime to pursue. Get over it already! What a bunch of idiots.

Why do truthers ask for a new investigation? Because, as technically, and as socially inept as they are, they do recognize a safe talking point when they see one. They know that a new investigation has a snowballs chance in hell of really happening, so they beat the drum. Every day that passes with no new investigation in the works, serves their cause-You see! There's no new investigation! It's an inside job!

But, if by some miracle, a new investigation does happen, when the results say that-Yep, UBL and his 19 Terrorists did indeed commit the mass murder that was 9/11, then their cause is also served because "everybody" knows, it was an inside job, and not a bunch of "cavemen" who could "hardly fly a Cessna". The new investigation will be front page news on truther forums as "The Fraud of the Century!" In twisted truther logic, it's a win-win situation. Meanwhile, their so-called movement sits stagnant, and dead. To them, being a total loser, somehow makes you a winner.

it seems they want to work along the lines of the 911 commission steering committee's questions (the families feel that only 30% of the families questions were answered in the 911com report)

they didnt like that cheney and bush testified behind closed doors and werent required to do so under oath

i dont blame them
but i think that was CYA for FUBARing intel

How many verified signatures are required to get on the ballot?

FWIW, the Web sign-up is irrelevant. The Elections board requires ink signatures on official forms and the verification process is computerized to eliminate signatures of non-residents, non-voters, duplicates, silly names, etc. That is what the have found $75k (or so it is claimed) to clean up the list to the BoE standards.

First of all, there is no web signup, to the best of my knowledge. You can download the forms on the web, but you have to mail them in with your signature. So yes, they are ink & paper signatures.

In order to submit the petition to City Council, they need 30,000 signatures (they submitted 52,000). Then, if City Council refuses to put it on the ballot (after voting), they would have to submit 15,000 more in order to override them. Those would have to be submitted near the end of August.

Today the campaign I am associated with just delivered 4,100 signatures to the BoE for the Sept 15 primary and we did our own computer verification. We know we have good names that will withstand any attempts by opposition lawyers to kick us off the ballot. 4,000 good signatures is lots and lots of work.

My sincere congratulations on getting it done. You're absolutely right - it's nowhere near as easy as some folks may think.

There have been prior threads about the 'ballot initiative' and the organizers did not reach the requisite number of signatures before the ballot in a previous year. Thus, a question was raised about whether they could 'carry over' the signatures that they had obtained for that particular year's ballot deadline to a subsequent year's ballot deadline.

I'm not sure if that question was ever resolved one way or another, but I recall that there was discussion about the fact that despite the overall number of signatures, the only VALID ones for purposes of the ballot initiative had to be from people who were current residents, so there would probably be quite an exercise involved in determining whether the valid signatories for a prior election period were still valid for a subsequent election period, etc.

Have the promoters of the 'ballot initiative' ever resolved what is required in this regard?

How many of the purported 52,000 signatures were obtained in the prior election period as opposed to in the current one?

Have the promoters done anything to ascertain the validity of the signatories for the residency requirement, or for any applicable election period requirement?

its only NYC residents that count right? (as opposed to NY state)

52,000 signatures.

This first one is going to be hard, considering there are some details, such as the presidential bunker stuff, that is highly classified, and not just going to be released to anyone, even NY State.

Are they going to pay me to take the time off from work, pay me for the flight to NYC, and pay for my food, lodging, and eny other expenses I encounter?? I don't live in NYC, or anywhere near there now. Is this taken into consideration??

Also, do I have the right to have my Union attorney present?? I believe this is guaranteed under the constitution of the US, and the union agreement withthe City of New York. Its been a while, but union firefighters don't typically just agree to be questioned for no aparrent reason.

Now, last but not least, who is going to lead this investigation???

This sounds like it will be a stupid waste of time, but whatever.

BTW, do you people REALLY think that there is this big coverup within the FDNY?? Stupid would be my conclusion.

Very good questions, but I don't know the answers. I would be making wild guesses that wouldn't help you very much.

You can read about the executive council here:

http://nyccan.com/contact.php

Also worth noting, from the petition:

3. The Commission shall include Dr. William Pepper (international attorney and author), Lorie Van Auken (9/11 widow, representative of 9/11 victims families), Dr. Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14 astronaut), Lincoln Chafee (former U.S. Senator), Mike Gravel (former U.S. Senator), Ed Asner (actor/activist), Ralph Schoenman (political scientist), Thomas Gumbleton (Roman Catholic Bishop), and others to be appointed by majority vote of the Commission members to bring the Commission up to as many as 15 members, and to fill any vacancies thereafter from nominees proposed by any member of the Commission. The Commission shall have a duty to maintain the number of Commissioners at no less than nine and to fill vacancies promptly.

William pepper - not an engineer, not a person that has extensive knowledge about terrorist ogranizations, not a politician who handles foreign affairs. Dont see how he is qualified

Lorie Van Auken - what is her expertise in teh above other than being a wife of a victim on 9/11?

Edgar Mitchel - what expertise in the above does a ex astronaut have?

Ed Asner - what does an actor have to do with all things 9/11?

Gumbleton =- why a relgious leader?

and two senators ? why would you have those who work for the govt on your new "investigation" team?

From the petition (bolding mine):

17. The Commission shall have the power to hire and fire clerical and other employees, attorneys, accountants, paralegals, experts, consultants and others in performance of their respective duties.

does not even come close to answering this

Wait, having read through all these questions, the first one I notice is #10. The question is why didn't Air Force One wait for a military escort? The checked box indicated that it wasn't even discussed.

This is most likely due to the fact that Air Force One's capabilities and procedures are, for the most part, VERY closely guarded secrets. THAT is a matter of national security.
You really think that they are just going to be like, "Well, we have A-A missles on board, and sophistocated technology that....." NO!! Of course they aren't going to address it. Dumb***.

#24, again, that is a matter of You don't need to know that.

Now, for the second section.

#10 for VP Cheney

Um, Cipro is a broad spectrum anti-biotic. I have taken it before when I had pnumonia.
Asking if he had taken it is out of line, and not public need-to-know information. He has a right to medical privacy, as does anyone else in this great country.

Page 20 of the PDF, talking about the video of the Isreali people filming. Um, that is not theirs to release. Its still that persons intelectual (sp?) property. They cannot just go and release it.

Notice this whole thing is about how the government FAILED. I will agree with that. But, its a lack of communication that it pretty much boils down too. Should they have been diciplined?? Sure. Fired, nah. Thats silly. That would be like me divorcing my wife because she didn't communicate something with me.

But, like I said, go ahead, blow some persons money, on something that has already been done.

Yeah, they would be out collecting 52,000 signatures to get the issue on the ballot.

It doesn't exactly take any kind of commitment or knowledge of the subject to sign your name to a petition.

Remember, people signed petitions to ban water...
