Instead of sharing your uninformed speculation with everyone, why not just go read the petition? It's posted on their website.
Make sure to read the fine print - you'll notice that the budget is 10 million per year, all private funding. You'll also notice this:
"2. An independent, temporary New York City commission (the “Commission”) is hereby created to conduct a comprehensive, fact-driven investigation into the events that took place on 9/11, as well as to thoroughly examine related events before and after the attacks, including any activities attempting to hide, cover up, impede or obstruct any investigation into these 9/11 events, following wherever the facts may lead. The Commission shall publish one or more reports of their findings."..and this:
"14. The Commission by a majority vote shall have the right, to seek indictments in any relevant Court located in the City of New York, or elsewhere and, at its discretion, to work with existing prosecutorial agencies or to seek the appointment of a special prosecutor under Section 701 of the New York County Law."..and, finally, this:
16. No New York City employee, past or present, shall have the right to avoid testifying before the Commission based on any prior agreements not to disclose or testify with any officials or agencies of New York City or other governmental agency; the Commission has the power to maintain secrecy and confidentiality of testimony or other disclosures where appropriate.52,000 signatures.

How many verified signatures are required to get on the ballot?
FWIW, the Web sign-up is irrelevant. The Elections board requires ink signatures on official forms and the verification process is computerized to eliminate signatures of non-residents, non-voters, duplicates, silly names, etc. That is what the have found $75k (or so it is claimed) to clean up the list to the BoE standards.
Today the campaign I am associated with just delivered 4,100 signatures to the BoE for the Sept 15 primary and we did our own computer verification. We know we have good names that will withstand any attempts by opposition lawyers to kick us off the ballot. 4,000 good signatures is lots and lots of work.
...if you would just go to the website, you would know.

Click on the button labeled "THE QUESTIONS".
There have been prior threads about the 'ballot initiative' and the organizers did not reach the requisite number of signatures before the ballot in a previous year. Thus, a question was raised about whether they could 'carry over' the signatures that they had obtained for that particular year's ballot deadline to a subsequent year's ballot deadline.
I'm not sure if that question was ever resolved one way or another, but I recall that there was discussion about the fact that despite the overall number of signatures, the only VALID ones for purposes of the ballot initiative had to be from people who were current residents, so there would probably be quite an exercise involved in determining whether the valid signatories for a prior election period were still valid for a subsequent election period, etc.
Have the promoters of the 'ballot initiative' ever resolved what is required in this regard?
How many of the purported 52,000 signatures were obtained in the prior election period as opposed to in the current one?
Have the promoters done anything to ascertain the validity of the signatories for the residency requirement, or for any applicable election period requirement?

Are they going to pay me to take the time off from work, pay me for the flight to NYC, and pay for my food, lodging, and eny other expenses I encounter?? I don't live in NYC, or anywhere near there now. Is this taken into consideration??
Also, do I have the right to have my Union attorney present?? I believe this is guaranteed under the constitution of the US, and the union agreement withthe City of New York. Its been a while, but union firefighters don't typically just agree to be questioned for no aparrent reason.
Now, last but not least, who is going to lead this investigation???
William pepper - not an engineer, not a person that has extensive knowledge about terrorist ogranizations, not a politician who handles foreign affairs. Dont see how he is qualified
Lorie Van Auken - what is her expertise in teh above other than being a wife of a victim on 9/11?
Edgar Mitchel - what expertise in the above does a ex astronaut have?
Ed Asner - what does an actor have to do with all things 9/11?
Gumbleton =- why a relgious leader?
and two senators ? why would you have those who work for the govt on your new "investigation" team?
does not even come close to answering thisFrom the petition (bolding mine):
17. The Commission shall have the power to hire and fire clerical and other employees, attorneys, accountants, paralegals, experts, consultants and others in performance of their respective duties.

Yeah, they would be out collecting 52,000 signatures to get the issue on the ballot.
its only NYC residents that count right? (as opposed to NY state)
