When asked about immigration at the recent town-hall style debate, Romney said:
So was that statement about his father purely a non sequitur or was he trying to imply that his father was an immigrant or something?
In fact, Mitt's grandparents were among the Mormons who responded to the...
The Supreme Court has sided with the Federal Government and overturned most of the provisions of the controversial Arizona immigration law.
The one part, and a controversial part it is, is that they say it is okay to check immigration status when a person is being detained for any other...
Who benefitted most from Rick Perry's "Texas Miracle?"
80% of the new jobs created in Texas since 2007 has gone to recent immigrants, both legal and illegal.

I find #7 to be particularly interesting. A result of Texas’s poor...

Just one little problem with that …
Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution as now written states:
Jose Antonio Vargas was sent to the United State by his mother to live with his grandparents when he was 12. It was only later when he tried to obtain a driver's license that he found he was in the USA illegally...
First McCain said: "There is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally... The answer to that part of the problem is to get a secure border."
Oops! He really meant:

Alabama state senator Scott Beason ended a speech in Cullman, AL on immigration issues with the words, “Empty the clip, and do what has to be done”.

This is a thread to discuss the issue related to the 14th amendment and the guarantee within that amendment to birthright citizenship.
I think that this is going to be a huge issue next year. I think that many of the right wingers who brought into the whole Obama Birther nonsense are going...
The Arizona legislators that authored SB1070 have another proposed law they want to introduce. One that is blatantly unconstitutional.

I wonder if he has ever heard of the 14th amendment.
Sharon Angle tells Latino students that these scary looking hombres from her campaign ads may not be Latinos:
I guess they must be Canadians because she then suggests that the real threat is the Canadian border, and that "we cannot allow anyone to come across our border if we don’t know why...

And as noted, this isn't right on the border … this is 100 miles inside the border. 100 MILES.
Now here's a question for you Obama supporting *skeptics*.
Why is the Federal Government asking people...
Wow...
Republicans Push To Revise 14th Amendment
My immediate thoughts:
1. This has a snowball's chance in hell of passing, and the GOP knows it. It wouldn't pass even if they had control of both houses of Congress.
2. The GOP is shooting itself in the foot, yet again, with the growing...
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jul/14/justice-sanctuary-cities-are-no-arizona/
The Obama administration said this week that there is no reason to sue so-called sanctuary cities for refusing to cooperate with federal authorities, whereas Arizona's new immigration law was singled out...
ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER:
"States and local governments can certainly help the federal

The ACLU website says the Arizona immigration law "requires law enforcement agents to demand "papers" from people they stop who they suspect are not authorized to be in the U.S. If individuals are unable to prove to officers that they are permitted to be in the U.S., they may be subject to...

OK, maybe not the whole state, but certainly the most obnoxious part.
Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce is at it again. The author of the last controversial immigration law is now claiming that he will introduce legislation to strip citizenship from U.S. born children of illegal aliens...
I've been hearing things about this for a while now, but I found a nice article that adds the results of a recent report:
Linky.
Now, I'm not well versed in immigration and asylum issues, but it sounds messed up.
Its very simple:
1. Make it a felony punishable by 5 years in prison, to knowningly hire an illegal alien.
2. Make it a felony punishable by 1 year in prison, to not check the citizenship status of someone you hire.
3. Require ALL employers, even folks who hire babysitters, nannys...
The USA always gets excement for its unenforced immigration policy. What do other countries do? Well, here's Australia for example. You have to be skilled/educated to get into Australia, yet who gives them excrement for their policies?

The article is rather biased in my opinion. This woman has had legal problems not only since she was arrested, but actually since she was a child and broke the law everyday while she was an illegal alien.
