Kent Hovind gets 10 years

slimething,

There are two times I can read your stupidity. One is when someone quotes you and the other is when I'm not logged on. This time you were quoted.

Now if you were 1/2 as intelligent as you imagine you are you wouldn't waste your time.

Gene

Well, that answers why this idiot never answers my questions. He's blocked me! All this time, I thought he had no answers! :D

Still, I will persist against Gene and his ilk. I don't wear these tights and cape for nothing! ;)

Of course it does. Luke 6:45

Gene
You do know where you can shove your bible don't you?

Questioninggeller,

That is irrelevant to the point at hand but it does point to the means to which you'd stoop to dismiss the idea. Too funny.

If you'd like to make a point to me I'd have to say you're probably wasting your time. If your sole point is to marginalize me then I'd have to say carry on. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Gene

My point was you are ignorant about science and all empirical evidence. You ignore fact because fact does not mesh with your religious beliefs. Consequently, you defend the misleading claims about condoms that can save lives, and want religion taught in science class which impedes children's understand of science, medicine, and technology.

If you are interested in continuing any discussion go back to the start of this thread and answer the several questions you have ignored. If you don't want to address questions people bring up, and instead offer a smokescreen of unrelated questions then I ask you to: stop posting in my threads.

The emboldened text bears a striking resemblance to this from the new testament....
there is neither male nor female:
Things must be extremely "different" at your house with two men as parents - or is it two women?

ETA - I certainly see how that would explain your recent posts :)

Hovind's passing on the con-ster business to his son

http://www.cseblogs.com/?p=63

...The spirit of the CSE Team is good, and we still get daily reports of souls saved and lives changed by the simple message of God’s incredible creation.

You know, this has been bugging me for quite some time. I just get such a negative kick in the gut when I see stuff like this, and I'm actually a spiritual person who believes in God. So I thought about it, and I think I've figured it out:

If one accepts that God made the universe, in all its glory, then it seems to me that one must accept that God made the universe as it is.

Therefore, science is good, and holy, because it is a thorough attempt to understand the universe, as it is (i.e., as God made it). Ideas that make it to the "theory" stage have been independently verified and have stood up to criticisms and questioning (but, of course, are open to being adjusted or even thrown out if better evidence comes along). Which makes science, in my opinion, supremely holy in that it, above all other methods, is immune to the false prophets/gods/beings that seek to confuse and/or mislead and/or use people through religion. If God made the world and made us reasoning beings, then God surely wanted us to develop the scientific method to understand the world It made.

Conversely, people who persist in pushing the creationist angle, despite all of the evidence that is independently available to the contrary, are guilty of heresy. And people who willfully persist in pushing this angle, despite having their arguments refuted, are actively engaged in evil behaviour, because they are actively denying the glory that is Creation, as it is.

I realize that this argument is predicated on an assumption that stands completely outside the realm of science (i.e., that there is a God in the first place), but I just absolutely cannot come to terms with the idea that science, and all of the theories supported by science such as Natural Selection or our current scientific understanding of the development of the universe and Earth, is somehow contrary to God. It just makes no sense at all.

So, to bring it back to the topic of this thread, I'm also glad that Mr. Hovind is in jail. It has been clearly demonstrated that he willfully broke tax laws, among other abuses. And I happen to believe that he is a lying, God-denying heretic.

Being thick-as-a-brick stupid doesn't stop him being bad. It just means he's not clever enough to get away with it. I'm boggled that he was able to do so for so long... ;)

Science isn't contrary to God, just a literalist interpretation of Genesis within a Seventh Day Adventist framework (a dirty little secret most Creationists don't know). For Theistic Evolutionists/Progressive Creationists, Genesis teaches lessons about God and man's relationship with him, while science is what describes the creation.

I beg to differ. Belief in god is fine as long as one understands that it is based on faith and not science. Now this is not the religion forum so unless you are saying religion belongs in a forum with paranormal phenomena, I suggest we drop religion and continue talking about Kent "the lying SOB" Hovind.

Thanks for the advice, but maybe you could first explain to my how "Kent Hovind is a lying SOB" is proper for General Skepticism and The Paranormal? Sounds more like either religion or better yet, Politics and Current Events. No, wait, since it's such a long known fact, maybe "Kent Hovind is a lying SOB" belongs in History! Yeah, that would be much more appropriate...

This thread is about Kent Hovind getting a 10 year prison sentence for tax fraud. He is a lying SOB since he tried to weasel his way out of it since 1997. I am not playing your baby games about religion. If you don't like me calling Kent Hovind a lying SOB, complain to the mods and see how far that gets you. Just keep your religion posts in the religion forum.

Questiongiggler, is that you? What did you change your user ID?

I guess you're right, this is no place for me to share the love the Lord has brought into my heart since accepting Jesus Christ as my savior. There is only room for hate and calling Kent Hovind a lying SOB here.

Actually, I think that the discussion of religion -- specifically, the religious beliefs that Hovind espouses -- does have some place here. Those religious beliefs, and their total antithesis to things that your average person could go out and learn about and/or observe every day are one of the reasons why many of the members of this forum have such an immediately negative reaction to him, and are glad he's gone to jail.

Oh yes, he is a demonstrable liar, especially on the tax fraud front. There's no doubt about that. But I think what is even more frustrating is that he keeps parading out this religious nonsense under the name of science, has been corrected, and still keeps on doing it. So he's a liar about religion, too. But it sure does bring the money in, doesn't it? Yup, bad, bad man.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you do too many drugs in your youth, you are paranoid and you have jesus in your life.

See above liar.

There is only room for hate and calling Kent Hovind a lying SOB here.
That's right and if you don't like it that's just too bad.

Keep it civil.

One of the big problems with Hovind is that he's given a lot of people who think "xians" are stupid fuel for the fire. Nothing gives some God-Haters more delight than seeing some new person to a Creation and Evolution debate start off with a nice long list of Hovind inspired PRATTs.

I can't vouch for how it is in the real world, but thankfully on-line there are a lot of Theistic Evolutionists who stand up against Hovind's nonsense and serve as a counter to those sheep he's mentally sheared.

Look newb, I don't see moderater underneath your ID and you're not the OPer, so how about doing us all a favor and STFU about what the content of this thread is.

Please clarify.

Here's my points:

1) Hovind says things he knows aren't true. (example: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/knee-joint.html )
2) Thus, he is a liar.
3) He makes his money by preaching pseudoscience.
4) Thus, his money is earned by giving people an incorrect view of the world.
5) He broke the law, got caught, and was found guilty.
6) Consequently, he is in prison.

Conclusion: He is not a good person, a detriment to society's understanding of reason, and he is a criminal.

I am glad that people like this are locked behind bars, and given time to reflect on their actions. Hopefully, people like that will come to grips with their crimes and reform.

You may disagree with these points, but that does make calling people names acceptable.

What is the difference between Theistic Evolution and Inteligent Design? Other than the one does not try to hide its theistic basis?
