Columbia University to pay $200m in settlement with Trump administration

Columbia University has agreed to pay $200m (£147m) to President Donald Trump's administration over accusations it failed to protect its Jewish students.

The settlement, which will be paid to the federal government over three years, was announced in a statement by the university and confirmed by the president on social media.

In exchange, the government has agreed to return some of the $400m in federal grants it froze or terminated in March.

"Numerous other Higher Education Institutions that have hurt so many, and been so unfair and unjust, and have wrongly spent federal money, much of it from our government, are upcoming."

GM has completely vacated the RHD global market. They simply do both make RHD anymore. They did not think it made economic sense.

What I should have clarified is that GM is concerned that the 15% tariff will leave Japan with a competitive edge against them. As I said, Japan is not interested in US cars, even if LHD models.

I'm trying to figure out how "MERIT" is an acronym for "admit any Donald student who's Daddy is rich enough to buy them a place"

Much the same reasons apply here as when he openly and loudly worked to derail that Republican immigration bill specifically to try to make things worse so he could complain about how bad things are and blame Democrats for not doing enough. Also, how he and the Republican Party promoted human trafficking while also pretending to oppose it with showy, ineffective means and making a big stink about a caricature of it.

A House committee on Wednesday voted to subpoena the Justice Department for files related to the investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as Republican leaders have resisted action on the issue.

Democrats on a subcommittee for the House Oversight panel forced a vote on the subpoena, and three Republicans voted alongside Democratic members. House GOP leaders have opposed a separate measure that would force the Justice Department to release materials on Epstein, and President Trump has urged his supporters to move beyond the issue.

The motion to subpoena the Justice Department, which was offered by Democratic Rep. Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, passed in an 8-2 vote. Republican Reps. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Brian Jack of Georgia voted in favor.

Republicans amended the subpoena to also include Epstein-related communications between former President Joe Biden, Biden administration officials and the Justice Department.

The subcommittee also approved by voice vote subpoenas for former President Bill Clinton; former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller; and former attorneys general Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions and Alberto Gonzales. The motion was introduced by Perry.

"Based on our review of all the information available, it has been determined that supplemental federal assistance under the Stafford Act is not warranted. Therefore, I must inform you that your request for a major disaster declaration is denied," a letter from FEMA to Gov. Wes Moore read.

The storm turned the streets in the city of Westernport into a raging river when heavy rains caused the Georges Creek to reach near-record levels.
