Merged Trump shot in PA??

One of his classmates said he excelled at history, social studies, and government; if that's true, it makes the donation more plausible.

Hmmm. Another classmate said he was a bullied outcast who always sat alone at lunch. But his academic performance across several classes that he probably took during different years is memorable to random schoolmates years after the fact?

Given the frequency of shootings of American presidents and political figures I guess it was just Trump's turn today. They aren't going to stop.

I recall with great fondness my English teacher from the 6th form (year 12) who tuned us in to Nixon's resignation speech.

She said "This is important, because no president of America has resigned before. Shooting them happens all the time."

True that.

There's a very interesting picture developing of the moment of the shooting. Video from the crowd shows a Secret Service rifle team on the building behind the stage clearly intently focused on the shooter's location in the seconds before the shooting. I would say they definitely see him. This would've been at the same time as the police officer on the ladder making contact with the shooter directly.

I wonder if the officer being there somehow kept the Secret Service from taking the shot. For instance, either the officer's position at the top of the ladder was directly behind the suspect from the SS rifle team's position (i.e., a crossfire situation, so no-go) or the rifle team was deferring to the police as it looked like they were imminently about to engage and arrest the guy.

ETA: Either way, the claim by the person in the crowd who says he told police but "they didn't do anything" would appear to be false. It seems like both police and the feds were aware of the assailant and trying to engage him.

You can't shoot in the air the US. It's illegal. You can only shot to kill.
Warning shots are considered use of deadly force. Deadly force is legal in some situations. It would have been entirely legal in this case if the police officer shot in the general direction of Thomas Crooks while he was trying to shoot Trump.

If you think I'm wrong, then prove that your claim is right.

The above comes from 'rally-goers,' in other words, magamutts. Two thoughts:

  1. Despite being law 'n order zealots, most of the maga crew hate the police.
  2. The officer did the right thing. Priority No.1 for police officers: Return home to your family at the end of your shift.
;)

This is exactly the type of dehumanization that leads the "impressionable" to consider killing someone as an option. Free speech is one thing but consider this, if that shooter read comments on this forum at any point prior to committing his illegal act. Everything you say here now and everything you've said before will be placed under a microscope.

Ask yourself, throughout History can you think of anyone or any group of individuals that dehumanized certain people as part of their party rhetoric? I can.

This is one of those events that makes me crazy and then I facetiously ponder that someone is inserting "Hey, let's try this!" code into our Matrix. I mean, only a couple little things going differently would have had a major impact on what follows, maybe even years down the road.

Preface: I don't want Trump to get killed, I don't want that kind of image to be the last we see of him. Let's do the Elvis Thing instead

I despair about the poor education of our Youth, especially when it comes to having watched films about assassinations.

My brain trained on fictional stories and RPG campaigns comes up with a dozen things the shooter could have done to vastly improve his chances of success or at least ability to abort without getting caught.

Just on the top of my head:
just he should have worn a MAGA cap.
That would have made people in the crowd and law enforcement confused and less likely to consider him a threat to Trump, but rather some Milita type there to protect him. It would have been a good way to talk himself out of the situation if he was stopped early.

My hypothesis as stated in the Conspiracy thread: Those lifts in his shoes are so high that he probably popped out of them when he went down. When he got up, he insisted on putting them back on so he wouldn't look three inches shorter when walking off the stage.

That is very likely. "Unlike high-heeled shoes, the component of elevator shoes that increases the wearer's height is inside the shoe, hiding it from observers" (Wikipedia) and making it much more likely that you slip out of them when something like this happens.
He also wouldn't want his shoes to be recovered by people who might disclose his secret.

So in your opinion, CNN is a trustworthy source of news?

He not only went down to inspect the bunker. He did so "two or three times," and yet only "for a tiny, little short period of time."
And we have his own words:

Yes, thank you. Nothing else needed to be said.
Yes, something else needed to be said, and Trump said it. It was a Trump quotation in the CNN article!

Are Trump supporters seriously going to call people out for name-calling? He has done more than any U.S. politician I can think of to normalize this type of "rhetoric."

Name-calling is a step toward dehumanizing "the enemy." Actually, "the enemy" is already an example. It's important in carrying out a genocide - but it's also necessary in plain old warfare. By turning groups of people into abstractions, it makes it possible to kill them with a clear, or at least clearer, conscience.

When Trump came out with his lines about "Mexicans ... they're rapists, they're murderers," my heart sank. Because I knew a lot of white Americans would eat it up. And they did.

The question is, why didn't SS immediately remove Trump from the stage?
A police officer was already in pursuit of an armed guy on a roof. Surely the first thing he does is reporting it so that SS can evacuate Trump.

I think the answer is: no one expected anyone to actually try.

It's the deep chasm where people claim to be constantly under threat, but no one is more surprised than them when they actually are.

I wonder if he missed because he had to rush the shot after being discovered?

Trump says he's going to make a "whole different speech" on Thursday at the convention, in a change from the "humdinger" he had planned he will bring the country together.

Info about the shooter is starting to come out, although it's still not clear what his motive was.

Authorities hunt for clues, but motive of man who tried to assassinate Donald Trump remains elusive

(Someone asked earlier why this wasn't being treated as terrorism)
The FBI said they were investigating it as a potential act of domestic terrorism, but the absence of a clear ideological motive by the man shot dead by Secret Service led conspiracy theories to flourish.
Investigators have found no threatening comments on social media accounts or ideological positions that could help explain what led him to target Trump before Secret Service rushed the presumptive Republican presidential nominee off the stage, his face smeared with blood.

Allegedly bullied in high school:
Crooks tried out for the school’s rifle team but was turned away because he was a bad shooter, said Frederick Mach, a current captain of the team who was a few years behind Crooks at the school.

Jason Kohler, who said he attended the same high school but did not share any classes with Crooks, said Crooks was bullied at school and sat alone at lunch time. Other students mocked him for the clothes he wore, which included hunting outfits, Kohler said.

“He was bullied almost every day,” Kohler told reporters. “He was just a outcast, and you know how kids are nowadays.”

Crooks worked at a nursing home as a dietary aide, a job that generally involves food preparation.

"A bad shooter". Also, high school rifle team. Only in America.

Seems like a valid question. I think they will need to review their protocols and preparations for this sort of event.

It seems quite likely to me that someone like Crooks would have left some kind of electronic or written evidence of what motivated him. Somewhere there is probably a small group of forum-goers who are wtf-ing about some things that CamoBoy666 said in chat.
