This is pure nonsense, which should come as no surprise to those who keep lending great meaning to this quote, which is always edited to obscure what he actually said, while deviously attempting to rewrite history.

Here is what Trump actually said, for the edification of those who keep hearing the same deceptive rubbish:

I should add that the left would not have to resort to these types of tactics if they had any real evidence to support their tiresome effort to connect Trump to white supremacy.

Those who are fighting to keep those statues and keep the names of slave owners and racist bigots as a part of The Suth's "proud history" ARE racist, bigoted white supremacists or white nationalists themselves.

Trump also hires them. In his staff, he has, or had

► Stephen Miller - avowed open white nationalist.

► Steve Bannon - who ran Breitbart.com, the home of the alt-right ("Alt-Right" being just a fancy name for white nationalism).

► Sebastian Gorka - who wore the medal of Vitézi Rend, a Nazi organization.

► Michael Anton - an alt-right propagandist.

At some point, I think that any sort of pandering or sympathy actually cross the line, and the person CAN be considered racist (regardless of what their supposed "true" underlying feelings are.)

I have decided that whethe or not a politician is a racist, or if he is just cynically exploiting racism to gain political power, is in the end irrevelent. The damage done to the country is just the same.
