Michael Shermer vs. "alternative history" Hancock and Crandall

Doesn't Google Earth provide the link things on it like Google Maps?
Because when I zoom down to the circular structure on Google maps it quite clearly shows Structure de Richat on it. Which KotA could have used ot find out what it was he was looking at.

So, since I am not the first to find and identify this site, I see no reason to contact Nature, just yet.

However, what I would add is that the "Pillars of Hercules" is not the straight of Gibraltar...They are two massive rectangular ranges in north Africa.

You can see that between them is a parallel corridor 200 miles wide, and after passing through, to the south west is the Eye of the Sahara.

It's 25 miles wide, and is not an impact crater. Just west is another circular impression, and of course the area is surrounded by old grid gardens.

It looks like a tsunami delivered a poop-ton of sand through the pillars and over the blue circles...

Due north is Posiden's pitchfork, and I've found ruins around parts of the north rim.

There are other similar formations in other parts of africa, but none look like that!

Google Earth is not serving you well as a research tool.

110 items of ignorant assertions, fantasies and lies from 9 November 2017 to 28 November 2017
  1. 29 November 2017: A fantasy that "Carts, goats, sheep" must be visible in Google Earth for an unknown location and time.
  2. 29 November 2017: Repeats the idiocy of a unsourced Google Earth image.
  3. 29 November 2017: Those unsourced images he fantasizes about are so far evidence of his delusion of a global civilization.
  4. 29 November 2017: 2 lies about "same size and shape as their terrestrial counterparts"
  5. 29 November 2017: A fantasy about "instructions" existing since there are none in this thread about his undersea gardens?
  6. 29 November 2017: I was interested and read the paper which gives a lie of dating of "grid gardens".
  7. 29 November 2017: The idiocy of "Follow the lines" as instructions!
  8. 30 November 2017: Lies again about his claim of "grid gardens" which are raised fields often with a grid of mounds on them as in the paper he cited!
  9. 30 November 2017: Days of "blissful ignorance" posting images from Google Earth with no locations.
  10. 30 November 2017: More unsourced Google Earth images implying "grid gardens" lies (no raised fields, no grid of mounds).
  11. 30 November 2017: Another image with no location implying a "grid gardens lie (not raised, no grid of mounds).
  12. 30 November 2017: A doubly stupid question because he gives no locations (maybe kilometers in depth) of these underwater sites and assumes it is possible to date these undersea sites.
  13. 30 November 2017: Reveals a lie about dating and Göbekli Tepe (abandoned 10,000 years ago and so he knows it is irrelevant to the other sites)
  14. 30 November 2017: An "African Rainforests were "plowed" before they were planted" delusion with no evidence.
  15. 30 November 2017: 3 images with no location imply 3 delusions about lost cities.
  16. 30 November 2017: Images still with no locations implies tree and lost city delusions.

Atlantis, Nature and grid gardens delusions and an unsourced image again

1 December 2017: Atlantis, Nature and grid gardens delusions and an unsourced image again.
The Atlantis delusion is that he has found a fictional island (on land).
The ignorance that only the first discoverer can announce discoveries in Nature.
The delusion that he has found pre-Columbian, Amazonia fields in Africa.

A "plowed" rain forests delusion about an unsourced image

1 December 2017: A "half a mile wide", "plowed" rain forests delusion about an unsourced image showing how such thing.
Rain forests are covered in trees :eye-poppi! That means that the ground cannot be seen and the furrows of hypothetical (inches high!) plowing are invisible.

A lie of finding walls and ruins when he found a known geological feature

I found walls, and ruins...
1 December 2017: A lie of finding walls and ruins when he found a known geological feature as in the post he replied to.
Richat Structure

1 December 2017: Dumb incredibility that thousands of years of wind can transport lots of sand!
Most adults know about the movement of dunes in the Sahara desert, sandstorms and the Africa was last flooded millions of years ago. His fantasy of a "wash of sand" is merely sand blown in by the wind.

Repeats a lie of finding grid gardens

1 December 2017: Almost admits his previous lie of same size/shape "grid gardens" with a repeated lie of finding grid gardens.
Images of what he imagines to be rectangles around in the world, especially kilometers under water, are not pre-Columbian, Amazonia, small (as in not visible on Google Earth otherwise he would give images of them!) raised fields with patterns of mounds.

1 December 2017: A delusion of an "Atlantis" that is a circular feature in an unsourced image.
That one is actually pretty cool, if you go to the wiki article on richat structures, I'm pretty sure there's a picture of the very one that KOTA has provided as evidence of atlantis.

I am more convinced that he's a troll, albeit an amusing one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richat_Structure

Edit: Upon further reading I realize there is only one Richat Structure, I thought it was generic name for a type of formation, my bad.

Side note, anyone notice that KOTA just sort of through out that there that the pillars of Hercules aren't on either side of the straight of Gibraltar like everyone else thinks but actually some other formation in his imagination?
I did.

The Pillars of Hercules is a land passage not a water one.

Maybe take a look at the site?

I think we are all capable of measuring blocks and reporting on their sizes.
We are. However we are not ignorant and deluded enough to make these blocks into your delusion of "grid gardens" when they are
  • Up to kilometers below the sea surface
  • Up to tens of kilometers in size
  • Not raised (your "grid gardens")
  • Have no mounds (your "grid gardens"
  • In unsourced images.
  • Look like natural geological formation, e.g. ridges on the drop-off from a coastal plain to the ocean deeps.
  • Are stupidly claimed as evidence for a past globally connected civilization when you have no idea if they exist.
  • Are stupidly claimed as evidence for a past globally connected civilization when you have no idea of their ages.
  • Are stupidly claimed as evidence for a past globally connected civilization when you have no idea whether that civilization planted them, e.g. they contain distinctive, common agricultural tools.
  • Are stupidly claimed as evidence for a past globally connected civilization when you deny real world facts, e.g. the sea should erode fields to nothing in a few decades and cover them with sediment on a few centuries.

Plato said:
“A mighty power (Atlantis) which unprovoked made an expedition against the whole of Europe and Asia. This power came forth from an island situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Heracles.”

Are you saying Atlantis invaded Europe and Asia, by land, via modern Spain?

This is one ridiculous thread. His claims are all over the landscape, and he does not hesitate to contradict himself back and forth.

Someone PM me if we ever get back to the beer thing. I once had a recipe for beer made from Kellog's corn flakes. Is that evidence that Kellog's of Battle Creek financed the construction of Gobekli Tepe? Hmm?

KOTA accepts that Plato somehow knew that Atlantis existed. But then KOTA accuses Plato of being ignorant or even lying about Atlantis :eye-poppi!
  • Plato stated Atlantis was an island and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar with it is inland.
  • Plato stated Atlantis was beyond the the pillars of Heracles and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar by deludingly renaming unrelated mountain ranges.
  • Plato stated Atlantis was "larger than Libya and Asia together" and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar with the Richat Structure being 40 kilometers across.
  • Plato states that travelers from other islands traveled to Atlantis and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar by placing Atlantis inland.
  • Plato stated that Atlantis was in "the fullest and truest sense, a continent" and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar by making Atlantis a small region inside a continent(Africa).
  • Plate stated that Poseidon (the god of the sea) was bequeathed Atlantis and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar by placing Atlantis inland out of Poseidon's realm.
  • Plate stated that Atlantis sunk to become an impassable mud shoal and KOTA makes Plato wrong or a liar by placing Atlantis inland.
  • Plato gives an Egyptian description of Atlantis which is not circular and KOTA makes the Egyptians wrong or liars by making Atlantis circular.
Note that the palace and city that the god Poseidon built was circular but only a few miles wide.
People know that Atlantis
is a fictional island mentioned within an allegory on the hubris of nations in Plato's works Timaeus and Critias, where it represents the antagonist naval power that besieges "Ancient Athens", the pseudo-historic embodiment of Plato's ideal state (see The Republic). In the story, Athens repels the Atlantean attack unlike any other nation of the (western) known world,[1] supposedly giving testament to the superiority of Plato's concept of a state.[2][3] The story concludes with Atlantis falling out of favor with the deities and submerging into the Atlantic Ocean.
and that the only interest is what inspired the story, e.g. the Thera eruption. There are also parallels with the Trojan War which was at least based on a real city. Likewise there are contemporary invasions to inspire Plato.

People know that Plato was a philosopher who used the technique of dialogs between characters to discuss philosophy. These often included fictional elements.
Do we believe that a Plato character having a ring of invisibility means that a ring of invisibility existed (if yes then what about Lord of the Rings :p !)?
Allegory of the Cave has "Socrates describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall" - does this mean that Socrates actually saw that or it really happened?
The character Critias (based on the politician and author Critias) who describes Atlantis also describes gods - are they are real as Atlantis?

One reason that pseudo-history cranks like Atlantis as an island is that it gives then an excuse for there being no artefacts from Atlantis. Their conquests left nothing. Any survivors vanished into native populations without trace. So it is convenient that their entire civilization also vanishes!
