Trump - One Term or Two

Pretty much with every response I see I'm more convinced that Trump was indeed a natural product of the spirit of the time. This had nothing to do with the dumb white trash electorate, you have and always had dumb trash voters in all electorate groups. Whites are just no exception to that, what of it? They simply felt this was their guy at last, so they voted for him in droves.

That's the whole problem: the rural areas have failed to adapt to an increasingly post-industrial economy where education is key. These "working class whites" are still living with the consequences of old industries closing down and get stuck with dead-end jobs.

It's no wonder why all the angry and poorly educated whites came out in droves to vote for Trump. His ultimately false promise of being able to get their old jobs back resonates extremely strongly with this largely ignored segment of the population.

The far left and the far right are indistinguishable, sometimes...

Extremists are all the same: all they care about is you being like them.

"the West brought us all good things,"

Well, it did, but not because of race or gender.

"The math'' of the intellectuals didn't seem to work to predict the elections. That's what we learn about it: don't listen to the holy mathematics and statistics of the intellectuals anymore who think they know it all with their fancy statistics based on their holy math. Listen to the hard working men and women, who are not educated, but they are rational, with their feelings. That's the humble attitude the intellectuals of today need to learn.

Hurray for anti-intellectualism!

It's easy to entice Americas dumb white trash electorate with the possibility that their old jobs are coming back instead of being "stolen by immigrants and the Chinese". Unfortunately they aren't coming back so we'll see how long the angry and anxious masses puts up with all of his empty promises and rhetoric.

Oh, don't worry. They'll be convinced that it's the other's fault.

I expect there will be a powerful Russian American alliance.

I wonder if that means we'll just sit and watch as Russia expands.

That's the whole problem: the rural areas have failed to adapt to an increasingly post-industrial economy where education is key.

Kind of like before the Civil War, then.

They'll put up with it indefinitely because Trump and his fellow travelers will continue to blame foreigners, immigrants, minorities and so on for whatever is supposed to be wrong with the U.S.

He'll just need to keep upping the rhetoric as the failure to deliver becomes more and more apparent. Even if he is successful in repatriating U.S. jobs, the resulting inflationary pressure will make people's head spin. Of course wages can rise to compensate but eventually it becomes uneconomic to manufacture in the US again.

It ultimately depends if Trump continues to play to his target audience, which he has so far played like a fiddle, or if he's seriously willing to cater to the rest of population. Therein lies the inherent problem with politicians like Trump: since they lack any kind of consistency or predictability just about anything could happen.

You know, this kind of talk of dumb white trash electorate is a big part as to why Trump won. Accurate or no, you can't afford to talk that way if you can't handle the backlash. Trump didn't speak about dumb beaners and sandniggers, but somehow he's bad because he speaks down to certain groups of people, but those that oppose him are good even though their approach isn't much better. It just targets other groups. The result was that this other group then elected "their" guy.Pretty much with every response I see I'm more convinced that Trump was indeed a natural product of the spirit of the time. Want to make him a one term president? Look inside and fix your mistakes first. By and large they're hardly any smaller than his.

McHrozni

Only because of the abject stupidity of "our" electoral collage. If it had been popular vote (which it should always have been) we would have saved ourselves from four years of the ruinings of a fool.

Can you imagine those delicious bacon wings?
Somehow I think Trump and Putin are more likely to bump heads.

I have had good bacon and good wings, somehow though I get the feeling that some weird industrialized clone/hybrid wouldn't even come close to as good.

As far as Putin and Trump, I am glad they seem to get along. About time we stopped viewing Russia as an enemy. And no I am not particularly fond of Putin, but our leaders should get along. It's the one and only thing about Trump I like, that he gets along with Russia's leader. If they get along and like each other, much less likely for negotiations to break down and result in wars or skirmishes here and there around the world.

So he gets along with one leader.

What about the rest?

I am ashamed of my country of birth. We had a pretty good run, but now I live in 1935 Italy 2.0. ****. Any country that wants to liberate the US, I am on your side. Kill some xenophobic racist *****************. You have my loyalty and my bullets.

We will have to see if he is more a Mussolini or a Berlusconi.

Two actually.

You can be darn sure Netanyahu is celebrating. He already took out a congratulating message.

Heck, the more extreme right wing party in Israel has already took out press releases and said (with loose translation) that it's time to party due to Trump being elected.

Also, I hate to be the one to point out this, but in a lot of places around the world this will actually be more positive for international relations. Keep in mind that the right is going up all across the globe.

Brexit is a similar indication.

And in that indication, any republican being elected will get things smoother. Even Trump.

Of course I voted for Hillary, I am neither an idiot or a piece of ******!!!!

You seem to be contradicting yourself, a vote for Hillary was a vote for President Trump, according to the best available data at the current time.

Are you predicting he'll do something impeachable while in office, or that his opponents will do whatever they can to get rid of him?

It all depends, if he runs his administration like he ran his businesses or campaign, he's already committing impeachable offenses we just haven't discovered them yet.

If the campaign was all showmanship and he settles down to take the job seriously and starts trying to build a supporting coalition of politicians, he may have a harder time getting re-elected, but he will administrate more reasonably, making any impeachment hopes unlikely to be realized.

With Trump having a popular mandate,...

No popular mandate in this election, one candidate won the electoral college, and it looks like the other won the popular vote.

True. Rather, his mandate is from the same voters that Republicans in congress will need in order to keep their jobs. I think the result will be the same but you're quite right to point out that most American voters did not support Trump.
