Trump - One Term or Two

I could see him only serving one term. He has several adjustments to get used to and I could see him tiring of them.

The restrictions on the president will take quite the adjustment for someone used to just walking into a girls dressing room unannounced.

Not being able to just give a command and have something happen. I wonder if he thinks that he becomes president and just says: "ACA is repealed! So it is written, so shall it be!" This will be the hardest for him to deal with.

Being muzzled. He will not have direct access to twitter or any other social media.

The investigation into his past has just started. Just because the election is over, don't think reporters will stop trying to dig up dirt on him.

Pressure of the position. He's 70 and out of shape, he could drop dead or worse have a massive non-fatal stroke.

I give a very low probability to assassination. A somewhat higher but still small chance he's impeached.

Just to pick one thing - what makes you so sure of this ?

I'm actually serious, but it's a real long shot. He doesn't come off as a particularly stupid person, he's obnoxious and outrageous and many other things, but he is not stupid. He knows what to say and to whom to get what he wants. He knows how to manipulate, there was too much of that in his speeches to all be coached. He also knows how to talk, which is a useful skill not everyone possesses.
Have you ever considered the alternative... that Trump is more like the Forest Gump of politics, not really smart, but successful just because, by random chance, things seem to work out for him.

Consider:
- His wealth... largely due to family connections
- His success in the primaries... largely due to the large number of candidates dividing the vote
- His success at running for president... largely due to Hillary having a bad reputation due to years of attacks by Republicans

So much of his success seems to have been due to factors outside of his control.

As for "Knowing what to say", keep in mind that his handlers took his Twitter account away from him. For all we know, he could have actually had a bigger victory had he actually been smarter/less obnoxious.

Because of his track record of verbal diarrhea his advisers will hopefully keep him away except under very controlled circumstances. He's the president, idiotic remarks can cause a market panic or worse.

As far as Putin and Trump, I am glad they seem to get along. About time we stopped viewing Russia as an enemy.
Depends on how they are getting along, and the nature of their relationship.

If they are "getting along" because Putin is engaging in all sorts of horrendous acts (invading other countries, killing world leaders, etc.) and Trump is just accepting it, then is it really a good thing that they "get along"? Wouldn't you want a U.S. president who at least looks at the moral and political ramifications of Russian actions before being "friends" with them?

Just wondering... can his advisors actually do that (meaning limit a president's communications)?

I know there was an issue when Obama first got into office regarding his use of Blackberry phones. It does seem strange that a president can be over-ridden in these matters by his underlings.

Can they? Depends on their relationship with the POTUS. He's supposed to hire people he trusts. Of course, not sure Trump really trusts anybody. Has there been word on who his chief of staff will be? Whoever that is will set the tone for how much 'rogue' Donald can be reined in.

That's the whole problem: the rural areas have failed to adapt to an increasingly post-industrial economy where education is key. These "working class whites" are still living with the consequences of old industries closing down and get stuck with dead-end jobs.

It's no wonder why all the angry and poorly educated whites came out in droves to vote for Trump. His ultimately false promise of being able to get their old jobs back resonates extremely strongly with this largely ignored segment of the population.

Nice to see things delivered in a nutshell.

I'm not talking whether he trusts his advisors... I'm talking about the legality. In other words, is there some law on the books that a president has to follow that says "no unapproved communication devices", or is it just a protocol that all presidents follow.

I am very worried that 'term' will become irrelevant as Trump will work to insure there's not another election.

I am mildly but genuinely worried that we'll all be piles of radioactive ash before his first term ends.

Oh, no there is no such law at least for non-state secrets.

It is just a protocol to help prevent the president making a fool of himself.

One term. The guy will be 74 years old four years hence. Then probably Mike Pence for eight years.

Yeah its hard to see anybody voting for trump again. I'm surprise how close the election got.
