People have wars and die for independence. Australia has a vote and we say “nah!”

To change Australia’s constitution there needs to be a majority vote AND a majority of states must vote for change.

At the last vote, monarchist PM Howard put forward 3 options. The chances of a successful vote were nil. It failed by design.

To become a republic Australia needs 2 separate votes.
1) Do you want to become a republic?
And then and only then (after a resounding YES)…
2) What model?

THEN we can discuss the flag.

How about this design based on the convict uniform your ancestors wore?

Problem: Victoria and South Australia never had convicts. That flag means nothing to us.

Before Victoria gained independence from New South Wales they tried to send convicts to the Port Phillip district, but both attempts ended in failure. After Melbourne was founded, they did send a boatload here, but they were all promptly paroled on arrival, as long as they agreed to stay in Melbourne. One of the reasons they pushed for getting rid of government from Sydney was so they couldn't send Melbourne convicts, as they had zero interest in being a penal colony.Victoria never took a convict after coming into being.

Adelaide and South Australia as a whole simply never had any to start with.

Always happy to take on feedback. I have tweaked it to take on board your information.

In the name of honesty, Australia could have the words "refugees not welcome" on its flag.

I've got it!

You see where the stars are in the Southern Cross? Well, allude to those, but be less literal: replace them with bluebottles. Bingo! What could be more Strine than that?

FTFY
Yes, as the first legislation passed by the Federal Government was the white australia policy. This was not repealed until the 1970s. They could almost introduce it again.

As to the flag it could be a pure white flag to reflect the fact that we only want white immigrants. Plus our original people. Leave it up to the rest of the world to work out we are not surrendering to anyone except ignorance.
