Of the choices I can see why Southern Horizon is preferred. The others are hideous, except for Southern Cross (lower right) which is the one I'd vote for.

Southern Horizon is quite ugly as well. Only the Southern Cross is something I wouldn't be ghastly ashamed of if it were my flag.
What's with these "lets make our flag as ugly as we can" in the region anyway? New Zeeland had a competition and also presented their voters with rather terrible choices.

You might as well change it to the Danish flag. Since one of your Sheilas decided to marry our Crown Prince he will automatically become King of Australia, eventually.
I don't have any strong opinions on our flags, but my god we need to change the rubbish national anthem.
That sounds delicious, but I think the word you're looking for is "unicameral".New Zealand may have a unicaramel system...
I, like you, am old enough to remember the last time we changed the national anthem - from "God Save The Queen". I still think of it as the "new" national anthem. When I learned it, it began "Australia's sons let us rejoice..."Yup, but like the flag, the arguments about an anthem will be ridiculous.

Why not just go with the Eureka flag?
It's already familiar to many Australians, it has historical significance, ........

That was essentially an Ireland Vs England fixture played away from home. I know it's big in Aus (Victoria in particular), but that wouldn't be an incident that I would choose to celebrate in a national symbol. It's very exclusive, too, referencing only animosity between 2 groups of whites.
On the bigger question: break links with Britain first, then the flag will just naturally follow. It would seem odd to do it in the reverse order.
This is my opinion too. I'll repeat here that there is no serious proposal on the table right now to actually change Australia's flag. Not one that I'm aware of, anyway. On the bigger question: break links with Britain first, then the flag will just naturally follow. It would seem odd to do it in the reverse order.
ftfy.I can see it is pointless to continue responding to you,you clearlyI have no interest in a polite discussion.
Can this mean we Aussies can have Danish moderators?
Sorry, an in-joke for old-timers.
Don't forget that Australia had a "mean and tricky" monarchist for a PM at the time and made sure that the model that got put to a vote would be too controversial to pass.
Because there's an unwritten rule that says a country's 'national colors' must be on their flag, right? But what about the national bird, or the national sport, or the national emblem, or... Shouldn't they all be on the flag?

Australia's "official" national colours are green-and-gold.
