Ed Should Australia change its flag?

Southern Horizon is quite ugly as well. Only the Southern Cross is something I wouldn't be ghastly ashamed of if it were my flag.
What's with these "lets make our flag as ugly as we can" in the region anyway? New Zeeland had a competition and also presented their voters with rather terrible choices.

I, like you, am old enough to remember the last time we changed the national anthem - from "God Save The Queen". I still think of it as the "new" national anthem. When I learned it, it began "Australia's sons let us rejoice..."

I, like you, am old enough to remember the last time we changed the national anthem - from "God Save The Queen". I still think of it as the "new" national anthem. When I learned it, it began "Australia's sons let us rejoice..."
And many hear "Australians all are ostriches". Probably better. I'd rather a piss-take anthem than the dirge we have to tolerate.
That was essentially an Ireland Vs England fixture played away from home. I know it's big in Aus (Victoria in particular), but that wouldn't be an incident that I would choose to celebrate in a national symbol. It's very exclusive, too, referencing only animosity between 2 groups of whites.
On the bigger question: break links with Britain first, then the flag will just naturally follow. It would seem odd to do it in the reverse order.
The whole Eureka event was a fiasco. A few hundred miners refusing to pay a legal tax. Leading to a siege and a handful of deaths. It wasn't the birth of democracy in Australia, it was the birth of self-interested insurrection.
The Eureka flag will never be Australia's.

This is my opinion too. I'll repeat here that there is no serious proposal on the table right now to actually change Australia's flag. Not one that I'm aware of, anyway.

I was thinking more of the scare tactics he used to deter people from accepting it, such as scary advertisements warning people of the huge number of "untested" changes to the constitution. Most of them were just word-replacement, such as changing "commonwealth" to "republic", or changing "governor general" to "president", ect.
And trying to get people outraged by the fact that the "president" wouldn't be elected directly by the public, even though the same position, currently under the name of "governor general", isn't directly elected by the public either.
Personally, I don't really understand the point of these things.
For example, we currently don't have a national bird. But if we did, what difference would it make? If we made the emu our national bird, how would our lives be any different than before? How would it make any difference if we picked the kookaburra as our national bird instead?

2 we need another tier of politics (president) like we need a second anus
3 If people don,t like the fact that we timeshare a monarch with other countries then why not just get exclusive use of one. There has got to be a surplus royal family somewhere that would like the job
4 we should have a new national anthem every year like the JJJ top 100
Apart from those few issues every thing here is hunky dory
Except for our appalling rugby record against the all blacks

That's the problem with spellcheck, it never tells you if you're using a valid but completely out of place word.

So why not just have a horizontal or vertical bicolour? Or a tricolour with blue in the middle and the Southern Cross on it?
