Will tariffs make America great?

Rename them tariffs, it'll confuse the revenuers enough* that they'll get through without tariffs being imposed.

*Especially with the new loyalty requirements.

Attach peel off 'Trump' stickers. I bet he isn't tariffing his own over priced tat. Made in China for people who shout 'Buy American' the loudest.

Taco much?

Donald J. Trump

@RealDonaldTrump

I have just signed an Executive Order that will extend the Tariff Suspension on China for another 90 days. All other elements of the Agreement will remain the same.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Apparently the Japanese, Europeans and Koreans are providing the USA with a sovereign wealth fund

I really do not think that the EU is setting up a fund to invest in U.S. MAGA-compliant companies. What I have read in an interview with EU chair von der Leyen is that they have have promised that those companies that had intended to invest in the U.S. anyway, are still going to do it. As I understood it, the negotiations were about fitting U.S. expectations to the amount that the EU negotiators knew the companies intended to invest.

And of course, the EU companies might invest more or less, as they please.

I'm genuinely confused about what these 'deals' are.

Obviously on Trump's side they're just going to brag that other countries have agreed to give America free money because they're so overawed by the Great Leader, but what you describe above sounds more like they've agreed to make a list of the various investments their companies have planned to make in the US anyway, and hand that over and allow Trump to claim responsibility for all of it. So, zero cost to them, and empty flattery for the orange dictator.

As with Peace Prize nominations it's now standard practice for dealing with the US.

From what I can glean, the agreement means very different things to each side. Trump seems to be under the impression that the investments will go into US designated businesses and the US gets to keep most of the profits.

Of course, all the 'deals' have a clause saying they are not legally binding.

This. And good on them doing it. Pride can be useful but it shouldn't get in the way of doing their best for their constituents.

you can take a look at foxconn in mount pleasant to see what those promises can amount to

The US producer price index increased by 0.9% in just 1 month, from June to July. Are tariffs starting to have an impact?

Taco much?

The makers of a board game I backed through crowdfunding just posted that they had paused the production of the US portion of fulfillment, since nearly all board game component manufacturing is done in China. They were waiting for the 90 day pause to end so they would have a concrete idea of the extra expense.
They've now basically decided that since they know ◊◊◊◊ all what's going to happen day to day, they're moving forward with the US fulfillment and hoping for the best.

What I do not understand is how the lie that the Tariffs are paid by anyone else then US citizens keeps being unchallenged.
Some people don't want to believe it, so they don't. When the people they hate point out the truth that just makes them want to disbelieve it more.

We're living in the Age of Spiteful Stupidity.

And there's always a quote from Trump that they can cherry pick point to that backs up their belief, no matter that he may have contradicted himself three sentences later.
