The party as it is would rather push Mitt Romney than AOC.
Utter hogwash.

Naming her is a bit of a joke. She's one of those progressives that are to blame for Trump, right?
I must have missed AOC proclaiming that she had voted for Trump, preferred Trump, Trump was the better candidate, or that anyone else should either vote Trump or not vote for the Dem Candidate the way "those progressives" have done here and elsewhere. Got a link?

Past that, people under 35 are where to start now and that's what needs to be done. It's not the age for now.
Sigh, you have to be older than 35 to get elected Pres, and I literally named of 4 of the many who are under 35 who already represent the Dems in Congress.

Hypothetical: Biden for some reason pulls an LBJ and will not seek or accept.

What now? Off the top of my head you've got a cop VP who has been consistently underwhelming and a transportation secretary with Bernie Sanders level poc issues.

Someone magically appears? Some billionaire with authoritarian tendencies who maybe this time didn't harass a bunch of women employees?

This is where your imaginary "establishment who tells everyone who to pick in the primaries" scenario butts heads with the real world and fails.

Have you even established that there are no young people in the Democratic Party? Jon Ossof, AOC, Maxwell Frost, Greg Casar, Sara Jacobs and more are all Democrats in Congress under the age of 35.

But how many of them could appeal to middle of hte road voters?
Certainly not AOC.
Of couse I suspect we have a few Berniebros still bitter that Biden defeated Bernie . They will never forget and never forgive.

Obama wasn't being groomed for the Presidency.

During W's early second term [Obama] was being pumped up like a Thanksgiving parade balloon. It was borderline nauseating. Jesus didn't get that good of advance publicity. If anyone is a good example of this sort of thing it's Obama.

It was done so well he more or less jumped to the head of the line in 2008. Which is a big part of why so many Hillary supporters didn't vote for him.

Well there you go. Good thing his only recent gaffe was tripping on the plane steps again. ;)

I think they found some more classified docs stuffed into an old pair of shoes. Best thing to dry out the insides.

It was probably some of Nixon's old bowling score sheets and not envelopes of nuclear codes addressed to Putin, but rules are rules.

Ah, we're now in the alternate history timeline.

Here in reality, Obama was a complete unknown before the primaries.

Now that you mention it:

Where is the weirdo contrarian vote going this time if Trump doesn't make it? Ron Paul to Bernie Sanders to Trump to ???

Jesse Ventura running as a Green? That seems about right for 2024.

Not quite true; he got attetnin by a speech at the 2004 Democratic convention.
But, yeah, he was considered a underdog. Many suppected ht was really angling for the VEEP slot.

Here in reality, Obama was a complete unknown before the primaries.

He gave the 2004 keynote address at the Democratic National Convention. Which isn't chosen by lotto.

A very famous speech that a quick internet search will show received massive amounts of high profile praise to the point that there are "ten years ago" type articles written about it.

It was as messianic as politics gets.

He was likely being angled for a veep slot.

The Obama/Clinton 2008 party fissure never completely healed.

There is plenty of evidence out there about aging and likelyhood of decline even were we to assume he's in good mental condition for his age.

The lack of other candidates is one of the varied ways the Democratic Party has been incompetent. The GOP not so much better, really. The Boomer generation has had no interest in bringing along younger replacements. Since Obama ruined their plans in 2008 it's only gotten worse. The party should have fallen over itself the last four years to raise the profile of younger prospects. It's almost like they do the opposite because they fear the result of the party drifting left.

That's how you wind up in 2024 being resigned to running a guy who first tried to run in 1988.

It's getting to be like the early 80s USSR when they were scraping the bottom of the barrel to find people who were there in the good old days. I can't wait for 2028 when Dick Gephardt is battling Al Gore for the nomination.
I thought the 2020 campaign was supposed to have some fresh faces? Harris, Buttigieg, one or two others?

Anyway, Biden is knocking it out of the park on Ukraine, as far as I am concerned. And as far as I can tell, it's probably the only pivotal issue in play right now, where the president can tip the balance meaningfully one way or the other.

For that reason alone, unless the GOP somehow fields a credibly pro-Ukraine candidate (which they won't), I'm probably going to vote for him.

Also, Biden was criticized for not going to East Palestine to visit the train wreck. He made up for it with a very long call from Poland to multiple people involved in the response.

WA Examiner: Ohio train derailment: Biden checks in on East Palestine cleanup from Poland
Biden, who is in Eastern Europe to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, spoke Tuesday night with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan regarding EPA's "latest actions to hold Norfolk Southern accountable, in addition to receiving an update on the situation on the ground in East Palestine."

White House officials say Biden also gave updates on the federal response to Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH), and Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA).

Scores another point.

**Thinks of all the times Trump claimed to be "working the phones" when he was criticized for not doing any work.

The president has a lot on their plate. I don't begrudge him going to Ukraine and Poland instead of Ohio. There's a global crisis in progress out there. Representing the federal government at home is a job that can be done by... The vice president. The Secretary of the Interior. The Secretary of Transportation. Etc.

Dude, you previously claimed that he was being sold as the clear next President. Now you're admitting maybe veep.

Obama didn't walk into the primary as the clear front runner. Nor the was he even considered a 2nd placer.

Agreed. HRC was seen as the clear front runner. Obama just resonated with the people more and, let's face it, being black incentivized the traditionally low-turnout Black community to get to the polls. Not a criticism, just a fact.
