I love how we’re discussing the deteriorating health and mental acuity of a man who not even two weeks ago stood in front of Congress and clowned the entire Republican Party.

I know Biden is old, but some of you need to get a grip.
Yes.

So we can add treason to the list of legal-related matters that you do not understand.
As president Trump gave aid and comfort to Russia which was, and remains, an enemy foreign nation (or does a country that puts a bounty on your soldiers not count any more?). Working under the ridiculously tight definition of treason in the US constitution, that makes Trump a traitor.
Not only that but the idiots of Jan6 were essentially attacking our capital. Maybe the definition of treason needs to be revised. Certainly there's no reason to be absurdly pedantic in this thread.

We need an emoji for 'pedantic distraction'.

When Gulliver Foyle explicitly claims that the "ridiculously tight definition of treason in the US constitution" makes Trump a "traitor", the inaccuracy needs to be pointed out. Because "Working under the ridiculously tight definition of treason in the US constitution", it does NOT make Trump a traitor. That's not being pedantic; it's correcting a fundamental error in his claim.

Technically, treason is only applied during times of war. We are not technically at war with Russia. So, legally, that would not make Trump a traitor.

One can be a traitor without committing treason. Trump is absolutely a traitor to this country.

treason
noun
The betrayal of allegiance toward one's own country, especially by committing hostile acts against it or aiding its enemies in committing such acts. ...
That fits its use in this thread.

And the Fox lies continue with OMG-gaslighting like this:

Former WH doctor for Trump, Obama blasts 'alarming' Biden health report: 'The cover-up needs to end'
EXCLUSIVE: Texas GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician, is calling for an end to the "cover-up" of President Biden's health after the president's physical earlier this week claimed that he is healthy and fit to serve as commander in chief.

"The majority of Americans can see that Biden's mental health is in total decline, yet there is no transparency from the White House on what’s going on, if anything, to address this issue and his inability to do his job," Jackson told Fox News Digital. "Yesterday's written physical exam report released by Biden’s physician, Kevin O'Connor, further confirms that this administration is still adamant about concealing the truth."
OMG, their target audience will believe anything.

It's crap like this that is why I say we should stop amplifying this message.

Oh, come on, SG. I don't think any of us Dems are saying anything even close to Jackson's BS.

I think your refusal to acknowledge that there are legitimate concerns about a man his age running again in two years for the most powerful position in the world is just not being realistic.

Who here is amplifying the message that Biden is not fit for office right now? Not me. There are, however, increasing odds that he won't be before his second or even first term ends. It's a big risk.

I agree that the Republicans will believe whatever they want regardless of any amplifying done here or anywhere else.

None of this changes my mind that we should find a younger candidate. Let them hear me.

"Biden isn't running so I'm voting Republican this time around", will not be said by many people.

Pretty sure I said nothing of the sort. I said you are amplifying the message Biden is too old, not that you are on a gaslight tour.

I think your refusal to acknowledge that there are legitimate concerns about a man his age running again in two years for the most powerful position in the world is just not being realistic.
Best if we just agree to disagree. You don't believe little things amplify negative Biden messages and I know they do.

Why should I join in the amplifier crowd? I don't even believe he's too old. But even if I did, it's much too soon to conclude that. He did a great job giving the SOTU speech. He's on an infrastructure tour and that's going well.

What's the friggin evidence he's too old? He tripped on the plane stairs, he's spaced out a couple times. What else? Seems to me the main argument is ... because he might be too old later.

So here's my question to you: What do you hope to accomplish? Do you expect there will be some sort of ground swell that will convince Biden not to run?

That's not going to happen.

Do you expect some wonderful (aka magical) candidate to appear in the wings encouraged by Democrats urging Biden not to run? Yeah right. Where is this person?

Do you expect Biden to crash and burn like Feinstein and the people around him will take his car keys away?

There is no evidence either of those 2 things will occur.

In the meantime everyone insisting on declaring Biden too old weakens his candidacy. They play into GOP hands which are already saturating news and social media with that message. One need only look at dishonest Dr Ronnie's news report on Fox today to see the GOP run with it.

Big risk?

Saying Biden is too old or will be too old is a message that snowballs. It's not each individual messenger, it's the accumulation of lots of little messages.
Got any evidence supporting these odds except generalizing age stereotypes?

You think some younger candidate is going to hear your call? And Biden is going to withdraw under pressure? Has this ever happened in the history of US POTUS races?

"Biden isn't running so I'm voting Republican this time around", will not be said by many people.
It's the middle aisle that only needs nudging.

Is there some rule we need to confine our comments in this thread to the pedantic version of Treason in the Constitution?

Certainly not, you can redefine treason to suit your personal desires. Maybe treason is wearing brown shoes with a blue suit.

Russia is at war with you. Remember the bounty.

And if that doesn't satisfy you then look at what he did with North Korea. That war is still ongoing, yet Trump was bending over backwards to brownnose Kim Jon-un.

Well, to be 'pedantic': N. Korea was never a declared 'war' but a 'police action' overseen by NATO.

Yes, yes...before I get jumped on: I KNOW it was a 'war' in reality. My father was there in 1950-51.

"Treason" is one of those concepts/words that is commonly misused because the public doesn't generally understand that it is restricted to times of war. It's akin to people not understanding that "freedom of speech" doesn't mean people can say anything they want, anywhere and not face legal repercussions or even getting fired or banned from a private media platform.

Once again, you specifically referred to the "ridiculously tight definition of treason in the US constitution" makes Trump a "traitor" which it does not. Correcting that fundamental error is not being 'pedantic'; it's being accurate.
