Hello All,
what a BIG scarey forum this is! How on earth do you find your way around? I posted yesterday then took me ages to find where it was. Used to smaller UK forum. Nice to see so much happening on here.
This is Tinkerbell from Skep.org in case there are any of you lot on here.:)

It's not the forum that is scary, but rather some of the members :)

Welcome!

I have a couple of tips for finding your way around. This is what works for me - your mileage may vary.

First, you can find any thread you've already posted in by going to your User CP - there's a link up there just under the words Randi and skepticism. You can also subscribe to a thread without posting in it by using the "Thread Tools" menu at the top of the thread.

Second, I suggest New Posts - again, in that top row of links - to find new things to read. Personally, I very rarely bother going to individual subforums.

Third, for another way to find new things to read, subscribe to the Nominations for the Language Award thread. Follow the quotes back to the original threads.

Fourth, you can Ignore threads or subforums that you're not interested in, again by using the Thread Tools or Forum Tools menus. This might help to reduce the clutter if you're not interested in, say, Economics Business and Finance, or Non-USA Politics.

Hope that helps.

You forgot to mention the goat. ;)

Nah. I work in a school library so I can just keep them all renewed for as long as I want...:p
Welcome to the forum. It took me ages to learn the short cuts to finding my way around the forum, and it was only last year that Akhenaten told me how to use 'Quick Links' at the top of the page!:)

What ages are the children in the school where you are a librarian? Whatever age it is though, I think there should definitely be a copy of Richard Dawkins' book, 'The Magic of Reality'.

I used to be a Primary School teacher many moons ago, mainly year 6, and once had responsibility for the library. When I first took over, the children used to say, 'There's nothing there.' But I soon realised they were right in a way - far to many old, irrelevant stuff. So I called in the county Children's Libraries officer, who went along the shelves, throwing books off the shelves with expressions of shock/horror that they were still there! She also provided me with new and better shelving.

Hi all. Slacker here.
Just joined. I usualy frequent the boards on another website (Ultimate Guitar) which is where someone mentioned this place and the interesting stuff you guys talk about, so I joined up.

I'm particularly into the subject of religion (although I'm an agnostic atheist personaly) and I study the history of religion in general, the way that it looks to have originated and developed into all the different religions that we have today, mainly from an anthropological viewpoint.

welcome to JREF. Are you agnostic only just the teensiest tiny bit, sort of like 0.0000..hundreds of zeros....1? I'm an ancient person, so I don't bother about that vanishingly small 0.0...1 any more! :)

I'm agnostic because I recognise that it's impossible to 'prove' that God/gods does or does not exist, but I'm also atheist because I don't believe he/they exists.

I'm also quite ancient myself. (well, my kids think so anyway)

We have 7 year olds up to I.B. 18 year olds! Their books are in a separate area obviously. And yes, we do have the Dawkins book as I made sure we ordered it it...haven't had a chance to read it yet myself as it's been on the borrow ever since!
I'm not THE librarian though, just the humble assistant:)

Hi Lady Grinning Soul and SlackerBabbath,

:welcome2

Great to have you here, now we have a Library Lady and a Lady assistant. What more could a well-equipped forum want?
And Slacker, good to have you around, be seeing you up at Religion then. More of an apatheist myself, but I agree with you on the proving bit.

Again, welcome, and have fun,
Femke

Thank you for reply. Delighted to hear it's out on loan all the time!

Ahh, apathism, while agnosticism is the opinion that it's impossible for one to know if deities exist or not, apathism is the opinion that one couldn't give two ***** either way. :D

Cheers for the warm welcome.

Ah. Now I have an assistant. My plan for world domination progresses.

Nooooo! Now you'll be having her watch your place when you leave for a while instead of letting us trash the place and frighten the neighbors having us house-sit for you and make sure the plants are watered, I suppose?
