Understanding homeopathy

Re: Re: Another study!

Oh, you forgot to quote this little part

"Conclusions
In this study there was no effect over placebo for self treatment with one of
three self selected, ultramolecular homeopathic medicines in preventing childhood URTI.
This can be due to the lack of effect of the highly diluted homeopathic medicines or
the process of selection and type of medicines."

What was that last line again? Oh "or
the process of selection and type of medicines"

That depends. You have two ways here to anoy the homeopathic remedy manufactors. Which one are you going to chose

Actually, Barb, they are referring there to HOMEOPATHIC medicines only. What they are saying here is that the lack of effect is due to:

(a) the high dilution of homeopathic medicine making it ineffective; and/or
(b) the selection by the homeopath of the wrong homeopathic medicine for this disease.

Given that there is no effect measured, one or both of these reasons is true. If you contend that homeopaths CAN select the correct medicines for diseases (most of the time), that leaves only one option that explains the results observed.

So...

If I go into the friendly local homeopharmacy, and while the homeopharmacist's back is turned I switch the labels on all his little bottles of <s>water</s> homeopathic remedies, what exactly is supposed to happen?

Do they still work the according to the original labels? Do they now work according to the new labels? Could a homeochemist tell the difference? Can they whip out a homeogas chromatograph and analyse the <s>water</s> remedies? Or is it all a load of horse puckey?

Be careful, you risk banning!

Upps, we are not on a homeopathy forum, there one is banned for that question.

If you switch labels, either by mistake or otherwise, there is no way, to findout about it.

That is why, homeopathic pharmacies, has devised fool proof methods to prevent this mix up from happening.

However, if this mixup happens, while dispensing the medicines, in smaller containers, by fixing wrong labels on them, it is unfotunate for the patient, as he is not getting the intended medicine, and it may have no effect at all on him, if he is not susceptible, to the actual medicine ,that is in the bottle, having the wrong label.

Anyway, this mixup can happen theoritically in allopathic medcines also, and how many bother to send the medicine for analysis, if it is not working as intended?

This mixup if it happens, is much more dangerous in allopathic medines, than with homeopathic medicines.

So can you please tell us if homeopaths can distinguish homeopathic remedies from the straight water or alcohol or sugar pill blanks used that have no remedy in them at all. Can they do that successfully? Is there a method they can use?

If you can't tell them apart, how do you know they are getting the RIGHT medicine in the first place? Or are you going purely on what the label on the bottle says?

We are not talking about allopathic medicine here, we are talking about homeopathic remedies. And thanks for once again confirming that homeopathic remedies have no measureable effect.

Whatever may be the system of medicine, we all go by labels only, and believe that, we are getting what is written on the label.

Is it not?

Most conventional medicine tablets are easily identified by their shape, colour, and text/numeric markings (Viagra being a good example of this). I often have to identify tablets brought in by (often elderly) patients and have a book of images of tablets to help me do this.

Homeopathic tablets on the other hand can't be identified either visually or chemically. They are in fact completely identical to each other and mixing homeopathic tablets up will make no difference whatsoever.

But there is one big difference is there not?

Can taking the wrong homeopathic remedy cause any harm?

Yes it can be, if potency too low, MT or by no/ineffective treatment in case of higher potencies. Minor aggravations or proving effects are differant consideration & may not be classified as causing any harm except some uneasiness.

edthedoc,

If there is NO way to find out, how can you claim that there is a difference?

All pharma producers have very strict procedures to prevent mix-up. Nothing is fool-proof, however.

You are contradicting your earlier statement that NO way exists to find out about a mix-up. Which is it:

1) There is no way to find out if a homeopathic remedy is mislabelled.

2) The remedy will show a different efffect that expected, when mislabelled.

?

Anyway, this mixup can happen theoritically in allopathic medcines also, and how many bother to send the medicine for analysis, if it is not working as intended?

That is not the point. With a real medicine, you CAN find out if it is mislabelled, by analyzing it. Of course, the average patient has to trust the labelling. You make a labelling error in a pharma company and the FDA will crucify you!

This mixup if it happens, is much more dangerous in allopathic medines, than with homeopathic medicines.

Are you shure you like the implications of that statement?

Do all homeopaths agree to this?

No. With actual real medicine which isn't water, it is quite possible to distinguish the different medicines regardless of what the labels may say.
Is it not?
It is not.

Indeed, you have just admitted that homeopathy is entirely fraudulent.

Let Gavinimurthy comment first on my post? Although care is taken about toxicological effects of any active substance, but If there is existance of substancial active substance in any remedy, that can effect accordingly.

You seem to be catching on. If there is an active substance, then there'll be an effect. no active substance, no effect. Hence, homeopathy is bunk. Well done, Kumar.

But you are not catching on. I mentioned about very low potencies & mother tincture, where active substances in their molecular forms are present in remedies.
