Trump's US Threat to Greenland (which belongs to Denmark)

The invitation that was sent by Mikkel Jeremiassen, KNQK, to the U.S. Secretary of Defense:

Sent to the US Sec of Defense, namelessly addressed to "Minister of State for Defense Affairs"?

He met a couple of Americans in Nuuk who didn't like his cap, but the response from the locals was "extremely positive," he says.

The sofa king has confirmed he will join the invasion of Greenland.

Completely unprecedented for a foreign country to unilaterally decide on an official visit, despite the protests of the hosting country, especially when the two countries are supposed to be allied.

Look there are alpha countries and beta countries, clearly US is the alpha and greenland/denmark is the beta. They need to learn to fear the big dog ally or no.

Yes, there are powerful countries, and not so powerful countries. That's why countries need allies.
(I know that Americans like to imagine that they won WW2 all on their own, but people in the rest of the world know it isn't true.)

Vance tonight (CET):
JD Vance on X, Mar 25, 2025:
Looking forward to visiting Greenland on Friday!
Hey guys, this is JD Vance, the vicepresident.
You know there is so much excitement around Usha's visit to Greenland this Friday that I decided that I didn't want her to have all that fun by herself, so I'm gonna join her. I'm gonna visit some of our guardians in the Space Force on the North-West coast of Greenland and also just check out what's going on with the security there of Greenland.
As you know, it's really important, a lot of other countries have threatened Greenland, have threatened to use its territories and its waters to threaten the United States, to threaten Canada, and of course to threaten the people of Greenland. So we're gonna check out how things are going there.
And I say that, speaking for president Trump, we want reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland, because we think that it's important for protecting the security of the entire world.
Unfortunately, leaders in both America and in Denmark, I think, ignored Greenland for far too long. That's been bad for Greenland. It's also been bad for the security of the entire world.
We think that we can take things in a different direction, so I'm gonna check it out.

"As you know ..." No, not really.
He presents a piece of fiction about "a lot of other countries that have threatened Greenland" etc. when in reality the only real threat threat against Greenland has come from the Trump administration.
But it sounds as if Vance isn't going to Greenland to participate in or watch the dogsled race and instead will be going to the Pituffik Space Base.

Vance says he's joining wife Usha on trip to Greenland this week (CBS News, Mar 25, 2025)
But the vice president's office now says the Vances will travel Friday to the c in Greenland to receive a briefing on Arctic security issues and meet with U.S. service members, and the base visit will take place in lieu of the second lady's attendance at the Avannaata Qimussersu dogsled race in Sisimiut.
The vice president's decision comes after Greenland's prime minister said planned trips there by top Trump officials are "highly aggressive," and as President Trump isn't backing down on his hopes to acquire the semiautonomous territory of Denmark. National security adviser Mike Waltz has also been expected to visit Greenland soon.

Gosh, no, I hadn't heard that a lot of countries have threatened to grab Greenland's territory and use it for their own purposes. How terrible. America had better grab Greenland's territory quick and use it for its purpose of stopping that happening.

Mystery surrounds the U.S. vist: Well-known Greenlanding Trump fan is involved
"All the American politicians that I met asked be: 'What can we do to strengthen the relationship between the USA and Greenland?' And then I said, 'You can start by sponsoring this'," Jørgen Boassen says to Jyllands-Posten.
And with 'this', he is referring to the dogsled race that begins in Sisimiut on Saturday.
They shut down USAID only to instantly reinvent it.

It occurs to me that a very similar excuse was used by Hitler when Nazi Germany invaded Denmark on April 9,1940:
Operation Weser Exercise (Wikipedia)
After the rapid occupation of Denmark, in which the Danish military was ordered to stand down as Denmark's government did not declare war with Germany, German envoys informed the governments of Denmark and Norway that Germany's forces had come to protect both countries against Anglo-French attacks.
In the case of Norway, the excuse wasn't entirely made up:
Plan R 4 (Wikipedia)
Plan R 4 was an unrealised British plan to invade Norway and Sweden in April 1940, during the Second World War. As a result of competing plans for Norway and Operation Weserübung, the German invasion of Norway the same month, it was not carried out as designed. Similar plans had been made for the proposed Anglo-French intervention in the Winter War.

That must be why I never got what I asked for at Christmas. No idea he was in the Greenland postal district.
I think that a U.S. invasion of Greenland to protect Santa would appeal to at least 80 percent of MAGA voters. :snowfight

Maybe, but you should consider that dogsled races are essential to the national security of the USA and probably haven't been contaminated by DEI or other frivolous ideas. It wouldn't look great on Fox News if one of the dogsled drivers turned out to be female, trans, or a person of color ... Uh-oh, I think I know why the visit to Sisimiut was cancelled.

JD Vance’s visit to Greenland is ‘unacceptable pressure’ by US: Danish PM (AlJazeera, Mar 26, 2025)
Along with Vance and his wife, the visit to the US military base in Greenland will include White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. By visiting the base, Vance has removed some of the risk of violating potential diplomatic taboos by sending a delegation to another country without an official invite.
(...)
“This is a charm offensive without the charm,” Noa Redington, an analyst and former adviser to previous Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, told the Reuters news agency.
“And everyone is upset because it’s so obvious that this is about intimidating the Greenlandic people and provoking Denmark,” he said.
I am not so sure anymore. I'm starting to think that the bumbling idiots in the Trump administration may actually have confused the dogsled association with Greenland's government and Jørgen Boassen with Greenland's head of state.

Apparently, the dogsled association and Jørgen Boassen didn't send the invitation to the White House:
Morning mail from the USA: At least, J.D. Vance doesn't say anything about buying or taking over Greenland
Now we know who invited Usha Vance
Usha Vance made it sound as if it were the most natural thing in the world that she got the idea to take a little trip to Sisimiut to watch a dogsled race. But it turns out that she had been invited to go, not by the official Greenland, but by the American organization American Daybreak, whose founder, Tom Dans, is working to promote American interests in Greenland.
This is what Dans writes on social media.

Tom Dans has a blue tick on X, obviously. It's a very long tweet! This is just some of it:
Tom Dans, CFA, on X, Mar 25, 2025:
As a sponsor and supporter of this event I encouraged and invited the Second Lady and other senior Administration officials to attend this monumental race. This visit was always intended to be purely personal in nature and in the spirit of the friendship between our two nations.
American Daybreak, and I personally, were very disappointed by the negative and hostile reaction – fanned by often false press reports -- to the United States supporting Greenland and hoping to learn about its culture, tradition, and people.
These press stories and Greenlandic officials’ overreaction are harmful to the strong relationship, based on mutual respect, shared interest, and courtesy, that the United States has long enjoyed with Greenland and hopes to expand upon.
So Tom Dans (and 'American Daybreak') is a (?) sponsor of the dogsled race. It would be interesting to know where exactly the money for this comes from. Did he pay for the two planes from the U.S. Air Force to transport the "vehicles" to Greenland?
And now the poor guy doesn't even get to watch the dogsled race he paid for!!!
American Daybreak is no longer planning to travel to Greenland for the dogsled race. However, our support for Avannaata Qimussersua remains.
It's a pity! I am sure that the Greenlandic welcoming committee is disappointed! The DR.dk article has photos of the signs they prepared:

It just gets more deranged with each passing day. I wonder what Usha makes of all this. Does she get the feeling she's been carelessly used and abused?
In her position I'd be furious about being used and humiliated like that and I'd made damned sure not to let anyone manoeuvre me into an embarrassing position like that again.
