Thousands of troops on the way to the Arabian Gulf. Trump threatening to "reign[sic]" down hell on Iran. And Hegseth fired the Army Chief of Staff and a dozen other flag officers across the services.

The ONLY reason you'd do that is because those senior officers, those experts on war, literally some of the world's most experienced experts in the profession of arms, told you what you're about to do is wrong, doomed to fail, and a crime -- and your rotten shriveled ego couldn't take it.

Hegseth is Trump with better hair and tighter pants. They're bullies, ignorant spiteful goons who've failed at literally everything they've done and yet because of their endless privilege manage to fail up. Like all tyrants, they are sad miserable wretched men, bereft of any humanity, morality, or the slightest shred of integrity, hounded by a bottomless gnawing sense of personal inferiority and determined to exact revenge on the entire world.

And that brings us back to where we started. War.

Nah, Trump's just your drunk uncle at Easter dinner; ignore his attempts to light the front room curtains on fire. When even drunker cousin Petey gets there, you'll have to hide the expensive Scotch and other brown liquor. Also, you might want to frisk him for his carry piece; he likes to play with it when he has a real snootful.

Something from reports at the time, if I remember correctly, was conservatively estimated to cost more than $2bn to do. And that's not even bringing it up to modern security standards, just to rebuild the buildings so that they would be (barely) inhabitable.

It's another dumb showpiece vanity project. You could build a prison anywhere. The only reason Alcatraz became a prison was "Hey, let's use that old fort that's already there".

There is absolutely no reason beyond name-recognition to re-repurpose a historical tourist attraction into an inconveniently hard to access prison.

Trump is about to start a land war. But he needs his dementia medication. So close off the hospital, kick other patients out and set up whatever kind of command centre he wants right there where he happens to be.

Realistically all it needs is some screens so he can watch explosions on TV. Most of the disruption will be the security screen around him.
