Trump's Second Term

Trump has provided us politics junkies a lot lessons on what the government does. It will not affect the last minute voters, the ones that voted for Trump because Harris cackles when she laughs. But the rest of us find out that the government can and does sue corporations, states, cities etc. Since it sends money, the parties settle, because funds (research at Harvard) are frozen when the gov't appeals.

Things I was familiar with before dealt with the EPA for example. It does not just send fines to corporations. The cases go to court. A good portion of Super Fund clean up money goes to lawyers. Both sides. Then after appeals the company pays the sum for clean up. EPA hires contractors for the work.

I thought Ghouliani was at the meeting as well; maybe I'm remembering a different Russian collusion meeting. The pretense was (wink-wink) Russian "adoption."
Rudi was meeting in Vienna in smoke -filled rooms with Ukrianians working for Russia for dirt on Hunter.

trump & company don't just spin, they flat out lie.
The problem is that around half of the US electorate believe those lies, close to 100% of the Republican Parry machine supports those lies, the right wing media machine amplifies and disseminates those lies and too many people have been cowed into being scared to call those lies out.

The GOP/Trump version is now the official truth regardless of what you may have read or what you remember.

By the time he is inaugurated, all the policies he campaigned on will be reversed. He will also insist he never said that he would do the stuff he campaigned on. That would be...what's the phrase...fake news.

His bold new plan to "Make America Great Again" will be to allow foreign workers in specific industries like produce picking, building and cleaning, and not deport them after all (Trump: "Isn't that nice of me?"). New oil production won't start for years, but the oil companies will get billions in government handouts for "exploration". This money will be turned into stock buybacks for exec boardrooms almost instantly.

Fortunately, almost nobody will listen to DOGE because it will be a Trump ego-stroking machine with no actual teeth to enforce any of its stupid "rulings". Musk: "Boeing needs all workers to stand up 18 hours per day and make more nuclear-powered zeppelins!" Everyone else: "And you can ◊◊◊◊ off."

Extra tariffs will "no longer be necessary now Trump's in charge", and any in force now will have been "a failed Biden experiment". Trumpy may not even add new tariffs but take some away. Because that's what he promised on the campaign trail, remember? Remember??

Prices, which will fluctuate anyway, will be "controlled by Democrat criminals" when they go up and "all his own work" when they go down. Of course, he will take all the credit for fuel prices already being lower before he became president. Or not if they go up.

In summary, he will be an absolute lazy slob, sitting around in his filled diaper in Mar-a-Lago, do absolutely nothing whatsoever and make no changes, while taking credit for Biden's work and simultaneously calling Biden a criminal. He won't forgo his WH salary this time round - he has loans interest to pay to overseas creditors!

Typical Trump operation - a lazy ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ liar getting paid to do sweet FA.

You totally called it on the produce-picking exceptions. :D

Also, he keeps backtracking on the tariffs as well.

And Musk since this was posted, has come out once again, insisting that EVERYONE should commute to work, despite the fact that he tried using DOGE to cut infrastructure spending!

Man, this is fun going back to read old posts to see just how predictable Trump really has been. lol.

Somebody should explain the "Streisand effect" to Trump.

From: https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/white-house-slams-south-park-donald-trump-parody-1236468583/
Donald Trump‘s White House has responded to Wednesday night’s explosive “South Park” Season 27 premiere, which portrayed the president begging for sex from Satan and featured a Deepfake-assisted PSA where Trump goes fully nude.... “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention,” the statement continued....

A few points here:
- I wonder how the ratings will be affected, since I suspect some people who were not fans of the show will tune in because Trump publicly attacked the show and gave it some free publicity (also known as the Streisand Effect... public efforts to stop something leading to the thing happening you don't want.)
- The guys from South Park just signed a deal with Paramount... the same network that is getting criticized for cancelling colbert. So, if this episode is broadcast with no edits, and South Park isn't cancelled, is it evidence that the decision to cancel Colbert WASN'T done just to appease Trump? Or is it because Paramount is under the spotlight and would want to cancel it but it is too suspicious to do so?

Lutnick is claiming that as a result of this deal, the US government will be building and owning factories making generic antibiotics, and that the Japanese govt will not be lending money to build the factories, but paying to build them. This is not the way the Japanese have described the deal.

Also, what authority that would Trump have to build factories that would be owned by the US govt?

Lutnick: "This is literally the Japanese government itself saying to Donald Trump, 'We will provide Donald Trump and the American people $550 billion of projects you choose. And we will give *you* 90% of the profits, America.' So basically Donald Trump can pick the projects."

The "adults" in the administration 2016-2020 who allegedly stopped him acting on his basest instincts are no longer there and this time he, and his handlers, have complete control over the justice system.

What's to stop him sending the FBI to arrest, or some ICE goons to arrest and deport the illegal immigrant Barack Hussein Obama ?
Yeah, but optics would be awful. Rightfully so, And Tulsi Gabbard language is suspect. Trump Putin was interfering - not to help Trump but to hurt Hillary. She bases this on written intelligence reports not being properly circumspect. However by that time there were many instances of Trump or the Trump organization openly trying to help Trump.

I could only get partway the white document with arbitrary blue and yellow headlines but she can talk about the niceties of handling and grading evidence, but it's true Putin was meddling and it's true we have a 2-part system and it's true Trump said "Russia, get me her emails!" on live TV. He was "joking," he said later. But clearly he was trying to get their help. Taking meetings with Russians about "adoptions" because he didn't did not know that a candidate for President, getting offers of help from an adversary, should be telling the FBI, not setting up meetings with Russians.

I don't see anything criminal there. In writing persuasive arguments it's good if you recognize counterarguments and dismiss them cogently. They did address them iirc but maybe not enough for Tulsi.

That seemed to be the gist but I didn't read the X posts.

Team Trump met with various Russians in an attempt to get inside information about Hillary, in exchange for promising to reduce sanctions on Russia.

This was not a dream, it really happened.

Trump really did attempt to collude with what he believed were Russians who could help his campaign.

It's not civil disobedience if it is officially sanctioned
Jan 6th being the exception to the rule.
As a general matter, unfortunately, the missing words there are "by Trump," "by MAGA," or "by fascists." Remember, liberals peacefully protesting against being gratuitously murdered is wildly unpatriotic and shooting those protesters earns widespread support from the right. Meanwhile, white right-wingers rioting, burning cars, smashing lots of stuff, and so on is just people being passionate and earns no real criticism.

Indeed. Even without everything else, one would think that Trump specifically and directly ordering his underlings to get Hillary's e-mails from the Russians would be enough all by itself to render Trump and co's screeching as partial grounds to consign them to actual asylums, where they could personally experience what that kind of asylum actually is, or to try to seek asylum in Russia to escape that, proving that they understand what that kind of asylum actually is.

Fears are well-founded. I was appalled to read recently in local news about one such horrible example.

This was a Canadian citizen (white) who had lived in the United States for over forty years. He was brought here by his parents when the was 3-years-old and has permanent resident status. He's employed, married to an American woman, they have four kids and own a home. He says he held on to his Canadian citizenship all these years with the idea that when he retired he would probably move back to Canada. He says he still has a lot of family there, visits often, and his wife loves Canada. Around this time of year he usually takes a couple of his kids and they visit family members in Canada for a couple weeks vacation. This year, when he drove back with two of his children he was refused reentry to the US by ICE. Why? In 2007 he had been arrested and charged with Aggravated Reckless Driving, a criminal offense. ICE agents at the border told him, based on his having "a criminal record" they would not allow him to reenter the US. He was with his daughters and they tearfully pleaded with the ICE agents but were finally threatened themselves with arrest if they continued.

Right now this gentleman is still in Canada. His lawyer says, yes, he was once arrested for Aggravated Reckless Driving, and it's on his record. but he was never tried, much less convicted. The charge was reduced to Reckless Driving, a traffic violation, and he paid a fine. So far, the lawyer says, ICE has been non-responsive.

The man says he's trying to handle it as an extended vacation but meantime problems mount. His wife works but is unable to cover their mortgage payments on the house they own. His job is in jeopardy. His wife and kids are traumatized by these events.

The underlying problem may be, we have a tyrant in Washington, and the ICE agents are under pressure to show actions. They're doing what they think they have to do.

An absolute nightmare. :eye-poppi
These are exactly the Bad Hombres that we are deporting. Undoubtedly they had tattoos. Possibly the kind you apply with a damp cloth with cartoon characters.
