Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

tl;dr: Expect routine proceedings to be carried out with extra drama. Some nations protesting may be playing to their domestic audience just as Trump plays to his, and some drama may be completely phony - prearranged. It suits Trump, it suits the media. Forget social media as an actual information source. Stories can morph into *anything* that way.
And with less efficiency and more belligerence. It's all that shouting, goose-stepping attitude coming to the fore.

All they know is that they want white supremacy. White supremacists don't want brown people in the country, unless it's for slave labor. They don't want LGBTQ+ people in the country, unless they are their closet sex slaves. They don't want anyone that isn't compliant to white supremacy in the country.
Do you disagree with immigration laws? It would be useful to know what people's underlying reasoning is for this discussion. Blaming 'white supremacy' is just juvenile. 93% of illegal immigrants are from South/cental American countries.

When a specific demographic is overwhelmingly represented, enforcement will match. People that aren't for open borders don't just become white supremacists because of that.

Only if you missrepresent what people are advocating. Which you do. Intentionally. Because you aren't interested in honest discussion.

Funny how you want to treat women and children like Osama bin Laden but not the rich guys who are funding and planning out these grave and serious crimes...which is what bin Laden's role in 9/11 was.
I'm not sure your position so please expand on it. I can't think of a single person that is against increased fines and enforcement against businesses that employ illegal labor. Who are these people in your mind?
TBH, this is a piss in the bucket, because in order to get rid of the alleged 11.7 million alleged illegal immigrants in the U.S., trump and homan need to deport 8,052 noncitizens a day.
There is no doubt he will come up short on his stated goal. But the overall number deported will not reflect the total affect. There was complacency. If business raids, increased fines, more ice activity, border crossing numbers lowered etc, the cost analysis for staying or coming will change. Which will increase people just leaving substantially.

My thoughts on all of this....

First, I'm for border enforcement. We need to have knowledge and control of who comes into the country.

But that also needs to be paired with a fast and efficient way to allow guest workers in. We depend on a seasonal work force for a number of jobs, particularly agriculture. It should not take months or years to get a guest worker permit.
Do you think the process will be streamlined if the current volume of illegal workers falls significantly? Necessity seems to get things moving in my experience.

If it's not difficult to enter legally, illegal crossings are less attractive.
the same could be said for increasing the difficulty of crossing illegally and obtained employment.

For people already here, I mostly consider that as the result of the inefficient entry system. If they are here, employed, and have not been committing crimes, convert them to a legal status. To arguments about it being unfair to those who waited in line, I point to a) the line being unworkable, and b) it's the option that's least disruptive to U.S. society and commerce, so it's to our benefit.
I don't like the premise that the system should reward those that disregard it's rules. Working is hard compared to crime. I don't think a framework for evading laws due to difficulty of staying legal is workable. Let the consequence play out and people will actually be incentivised to change the laws.

Sometimes breaking the law, eventually changes the law.

Look at Rosa Parks and cannabis.

Am I the only one that remembers this?

One thing the maga weirdoes kept going on and on about was that the Biden and Harris administration was actually paying millions of illegal immigrants to live here.

Why not just go to the addresses of those receiving checks and pick them up?

They could then do a lot better than only a thousand a week (or 4,000---who knows for sure).

Or maybe that was just another lie by those stupid, lying, maga weirdoes.

Yes, very strange that Trump allowed an MS-13 gang member into the country and didn’t immediately deport him, even though they knew where to find him the whole time.

Or maybe I'd have to see the unconstitutional actions before calling them such. Not everyone believes enforcing the law is a negative. Just because you don't like something doesnt mean it can't, or shouldn't be done.
Stop minimising nazism, lad. It is not the moral thing to do.

Also:
And yet you'll still have fellow travelers like rdwright shouting "alarmism!"

Getting the actual numbers is hard, but if I just use the number 3,000 (over four days) that Homan supplied last Friday, that works out to 750 deportees a day, and over the next four years, that'll total out to about 1.1 million.

That's a far cry from deporting all 11.7 million illegal immigrants.

The maga weirdoes keep giving me different numbers (from 11 million to 60 million), and I keep telling them that they should get together and get their "facts" straight, but they just ignore me. Like that's a surprise., right?

If anyone has any advice on how I can get the actual numbers of how many have been deported, I'll be glad to listen.

We all know where the tramplicans want to end up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auschwitz_concentration_camp, with them as the Totenkopfs.

Well, pretty straightforward things like "ICE IS TARGETTING SCHOOLS" are still being spread even after it was pointed out by news sources that it was the secret service and not ICE. So objective reality gets to decide. I'm sure this will be more nuanced when individual cases of things happen, like an American Citizen being held pending paperwork or citizenship, or a Native American as pointed out above. Avoiding hyperbole from individual cases would be best practice.

So he will defy the courts to impose it, something that will only affect new births after Feb? Even if I thought it likely for him to defy the courts, this is definitely not one I see it being useful or likely on. But sure, it could happen. I just don't see it as related to the discussion of current ICE actions.
You're like one of the thousands of good German burgomeisters who after WW2 and being shown the KZs screamed piteously "I didn't know! How could I gave known? I'm a victim too!".

All this despite joining the NSDAP in 1930, being an avid reader of Der Stürmer and Der Völkischer Beobachter for two decades, geleefully engaging in the various progroms, happily accepting ownership of businesses you knew were illegally dispossessed off jews, walking past the local KZ daily and seeing the starving prisoners and even accepting thousands of starving slave labourers and watching them die on your factory floor.

Once everyone deportable has been deported, who will be to blame for everything?
Simple: bring back a modern Jim Crow. Find reasons to declare people felons and terrorists. It lets you throw them in prison and use them as free labor. It's even written into the 13th Amendment

Trans people, the Democratic Party, and nebulouos 'others'. You know, like globalist, communists, woke, Antifa...

Oh, and RINOs. Something something leopards and long knives.

You've convinced me. ICE and this administration should break whatever laws it needs to in order to deport as many illiegal immigrants as possible. It would be difficult otherwise, and I know how you guys feel criminality is justified in the face of that...

Great way to get the law changed!

This is people conflating asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. There has been a huge influx in people claiming asylum, which some have pointed to as trying to game the system. Only about 30% are approved when it reaches the courts, although that doesn't necessarily mean all 70% are completely fraudulent.

Stop minimising nazism, lad. It is not the moral thing to do.
You can keep calling everything you don't like nazism but it doesn't make it so.

And yet you'll still have fellow travelers like rdwright shouting "alarmism!"
I have no problems with warehouse raids. They do have to follow the law in regards to representation, conditions and the like. I dont care if that makes ICE's job more difficult.

You're like one of the thousands of good German burgomeisters who after WW2 and being shown the KZs screamed piteously "I didn't know! How could I gave known? I'm a victim too!".
I feel like it shouldn't need to be said, but enforcing immigration law is not a nazi action. It should be the normal state of being.

I think it's the blatantly unconstitutional actions, ignoring black letter law to get as many brown people out of the country as possible regardless of legal status, and not to mention the racist conspiracy theories, that give the Nazi vibes.

But please, continue to ignore all that and pretend it's just about "enforcing immigration law". It's doing wonders for your credibility.

RD, how do you feel about spending hundreds of thousands more per flight, unnecessarily, to deport people and then cutting safety net programs as the "mitigation" for the cost?
