I don't quite get your empathy for foreign criminal murderers, but this is from the Maryland State's Attorney. If this doesn't placate you, I guess nothing will do.

This post isn't really related to the conversation you're having with someone else but it reminded me of something.
Murderers (you don't need criminal there) who have served their sentence are supposed to be picked up by ICE. It's not hard to deport a lot of people that way but it's not instantaneous. Or maybe it can be, if the person is not trying to fight it. It's often not clear what it means to
"deport" someone. lt used to be common to just drop Mexican immigrants off on the Mexican side of the border with really no paperwork. There was a different team for that.
So Colombia didn't want people being returned on military jets. They said civilian aircraft would be fine. I don't know why this is different for them but it is based on something real. Flying military aircraft into their airspace I guess? And one nation complained about them being handcuffed for the flight.
So my question is ... who ARE these people? None of the news stories I read yesterday touched on that. And where did ICE get them? Is it a result of Trump raids, or a case of ICE finally getting around to picking them up? Or were they holding back so they could make a big splash when Trump came into office?
People on ICE holds are deported every day. I feel like there are people in this country who *really don't know this*. Biden did it, Obama did it, Trump did it ... it's a routine thing except Trump I guess just wanted to antagonize people to stay in the news cycle.
Who are these people, when did their sentences expire, when did ICE pick them up and how long were they in ICE custody? Because it may have NOTHING to do with mass deportations of farmworkers etc. ... I don't think this could have been a result of last week's raids but I could be wrong.
