Trump's Coup d'état.

The Phone call story just confrims on thing. One media outlet you do NOT want to get into a fight with is the WAPO;Long term, the WAPO almost always wins....

I'm not knocking the Post, but the story is the result of Raffensburger taping the call. He (or whoever he worked with) could have given it to any media organization, and ultimately gave it to several. It continues to surprise me that we haven't heard a lot more Trump tapes, considering how much time he spends on the phone, not to mention how easy it would be to carry concealed recorders into meetings. I suspect that after Jan. 20, the dam will burst.

This is why if the Dems win the Senate on Tuesday, the Dems have to pull out all the stops beginning with making Puerto Rico and DC States.
...

Puerto Rico has had several referendums in which they voted not to seek statehood. That could change, of course, but PR needs to take the first step. Congress couldn't make it a state against the popular will.

Um, are you familiar with that site? The word "business" is misspelled in the URL and it's identified as "The Real News Network".

Maybe I'm just too suspicious, but I'm thinking it just might not be legitimate.

It's an aggregator. The story was lifted from Business Insider, but that link is behind a paywall.

They used an intercept of a call when they caught Gingrich cheating on his wife while publicly chastising Bill Clinton's moral values.

I'm surprised more Trump calls haven't been intercepted.

IIRC the last no vote was a while ago.

They need another vote because without it Congress can't move forward to make them a state.

A referendum of the status of Puerto Rico was held on November 3, 2020, concurrently with the general election....This was the first referendum with a simple yes-or-no question...Based on the completed official election night count, the option to pursue statehood won the referendum 52.52%–47.48%.

Not sure how binding it is, but it seems like statehood is the preferred option.

One of the problems with various referendums is that there were more than 2 options to be considered... statehood, independence, status quo, etc. so it was difficult for any option to get a majority.

The idea she even remotely might make such a statement is absurd on its face.

Of course it is; which is why he wasn't saying any such thing. You inferred incorrectly that he was.

I'm not sure how you think I was saying anything else.

I didn't. I was agreeing with you and pressing the point even further.

I did not. I understand what was meant.

And I'm saying the reference sucked for reasons I've tried to explain. It's not because I didn't understand something.

You don't have to agree, no one does.

Right; you didn't misunderstand what trustbutverify was saying even though he clearly says you did. But you are right: I don't have to agree.

Not to drag out this stupid point but, if I say you didn't understand what I'm saying, how is someone telling me I didn't understand them any more valid?

I get it Clinton would never say what Trump said most recently. That was never the issue.

Here's what was said:

If Killary had a tape along these lines made public, they'd be erecting her gallows by now.
"Killary"? really?

Gallows? Really?

Why is anyone defending this piss-poor example? I thought it was out of line, I don't care that, d'uh, they didn't mean it would actually happen.

And of course, the lead on the Fox News web page is Purdue calling the leaking of the audio "disgusting". He's not saying the audio is disgusting, but that the leaking of it was.

At least they managed to mention the incident; that's real progress for Fox.

I suspect it was the last major hurricane that changed people's minds. If they had votes in Congress, the response from the USG would never have been so anemic. There's just no leverage other than what Puerto Ricans living in the states can muster.

*Shrugs* I get that this won't be the most popular opinion with either side but I would be perfectly comfortable with telling all our territories "Either become a state or you're on you're only entirely" with a like a 5-10 ultimatum.

It's 2020. We're not empire building. We shouldn't have colonies.

Not everyone can be as perceptive as you are. That's a high bar to clear.
