(ATLANTA)-Yesterday, during a Georgia State Senate hearing, failed treasure hunter, J. Hutton Pulitzer, or Commander Pulitzer (no record of military experience), claimed that he had “hacked” Georgia’s voting system. The treasure hunter provided no evidence during the Senate hearing that he had done so, only claiming it had happened.

“Fake news is hard enough to combat when mainstream media outlets push it out, but when a small cadre of Georgia legislators do it, it’s a whole different story,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “These legislators need to stop calling their own reelections illegitimate and focus on getting out the vote for the January 5 elections. The mistrust they are sowing is depressing turnout. If Senators Loeffler and Perdue lose on January 5, the Georgia state legislators have only themselves to blame.”

In another election disinformation filled hearing, a small group of Republicans in the Georgia State Senate featured the claims of failed inventor and failed treasure hunter J. Hutton Pulitzer as a star witness. In his presentation, Hutton Pulitzer, formerly J. Jovan Philylaw, claimed without providing any evidence that he had “hacked” a poll pad. He then went on to claim that meant that the entire voting system was compromised even though the poll pad, like the poll books which they have replaced, are never connected to the rest of the voting system.

True. But the point is that they don't want to hear the truth. They only want to hear what they want to hear. Trump could come out and admit he lied about the whole thing and they'd claim he was forced to say that.

Hutton Pulitzer was the inventor of CueCat, a cat shaped device that, when connected to the computer, allowed users to scan barcodes on ads that would bring up the website where they could purchase the advertised product. The device attracted $185 million in investment before becoming “an anathema of the tech industry and a cautionary tale for investors.” In 2006, is was listed as one of the “25 worst tech products of all time” by PC World magazine.

Hutton Pulitzer later became a treasure hunter, searching unsuccessfully for the Ark of the Covenant and later claiming that a sword, that was likely a fake, not only had “‘magical’ magnetic properties” but was also a sign that ancient Romans had visited North America by 200 A.D.

His published work is comprised largely of “Commanders Lost Treasures” books, a separate one for many states in the U.S., and includes “How to Cut Off Your Arm and Eat Your Dog.”

Despite Hutton’s claims, the Poll Pads are the only piece of election infrastructure that is ever hooked up to the internet or connected to devices that are hooked up to the internet. The poll pads have that capability so election workers can download updated voter lists to the poll pads that are used to check people in on Election Day. However, the Wifi capability is disabled before the poll pads are put in to use at the polling place.

Additionally, the touch screen interfaces and attached printers are never attached to the poll pads and are air-gapped so they cannot be connected to the internet. Finally, the scanners, which scan and tabulate the printed paper ballots that voters can review before casting, are not connected to any of the other equipment at any point either.

In a statement, poll pad creator KnowInk said: “The assertions made about unauthorized access to our systems are patently false. The man claiming that someone ‘got into’ our systems did not happen according to our forensic analysis. There was no ‘hack,’ there was no ‘back door’ entry, there was no ‘pump and dump,’ and there was no access through a ‘thermostat’ located hundreds of miles away in Savannah.”

Georgia is recognized as a national leader in elections. It was the first state in the country to implement the trifecta of automatic voter registration, at least 16 days of early voting (which has been called the “gold standard”), and no-excuse absentee voting. Georgia continues to set records for voter turnout and election participation, seeing the largest increase in average turnout of any other state in the 2018 midterm election and record turnout in 2020, with over 1.3 million absentee by mail voters and over 3.6 million in-person voters utilizing Georgia’s new, secure, paper ballot voting system.

He's pointing out the hypocrisy of the Conservative reaction to Trump doing an outrageous/treasonous thing vs. if Hillary did an outrageous/treasonous thing. I think he is fully aware that Hillary would not act like Trump.

Obviously many Republicans are as hypocritical as you can get. As I said above, the idea Clinton might even remotely make such a statement is absurd on its face.

This is a situation where it amounts to claiming yet another false equivalency. Of course trustbutverify wasn't saying Clinton might say anything like Trump has said in this call.

But there's a point where using such an illustration of hypocrisy crosses the line into false equivalence to even suggest it.

To use such an example normalizes Trump's actions whether people recognize it or not, and whether people agree with me or not.

Let's not pretend this is Trump's first time breaking the law.

This call is just another example of Trump attempting to put his thumb on the scale. It's not new. Just look at how many times Trump has done this in his Presidency. He's done this at least a half a dozen times since the November. He has pressured Governors, State representatives in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin Arizona, and Georgia. All of them are blatant election tampering.

Trump should go to prison for his attack on democracy.

I have seen 1 or 2 interviews with Republican politicians who are saying Trump was wrong in what he is doing to challenge the election and about the call. (One was even called "brave" for challenging Trump over this.)

But I have not heard of any commentator challenging those Republican politicians, pointing out how they have enabled Trump for 4 years. I would love to see one of the news anchors point out. Something like "You act surprised Trump would try to overturn the election, but shouldn't you have expected that after he tried to blackmail ukraine to interfere, and you voted against impeachment?"

I've heard them say many of those parties have been invited, but declined to be interviewed by those CNN guys. Jake Tapper gets one once in a while and does get some harder questions in. But I think the policy is, if someone comes on with an agenda, doesn't answer questions, or just lies their ass off, they rarely get invited back. They put up with Kelly Anne Conway and Jason (Jacob?) Miller for a long time, and we don't see them any more on CNN interview shows. It even took them the longest time to call out lies for what they were, preferring euphemisms, but now have no compunction against that.

And that is not even briniging up Trump's many legally questionable actions before he became POTUS..and for which he very well may be charged.
 
The Phone call story just confrims on thing. One media outlet you do NOT want to get into a fight with is the WAPO;Long term, the WAPO almost always wins....
 
Interesting developments, for sure. Also the playbook for the GOP going forward. You can bet your bottom dollar Republican state legislatures will be hard at work "retaking" the Electoral College via redistricting, voter suppression, and changes in procedures and law, if not a change in state constitutions.

Bottom line: Trump's observation that Republicans cannot win without cheating is perhaps his only true statement in 4 years. Biblical truth for the GOP.

This is why if the Dems win the Senate on Tuesday, the Dems have to pull out all the stops beginning with making Puerto Rico and DC States.

This would tilt the balance of both the House and the Senate. If they combine it with an apportionment plan like I have suggested they will make a serious grab of power that will make the Republicans howl. But they really couldn't justifiably object. All of these Acts require nothing more than simple majorities and a sympathetic President.

They need to do it while they can. It will help with legislation for a decade, probably two.
