Trump's Coup d'état.

i think they have a much better shot at taking the senate than they did in early november, and much of that is due to Trump

There are Republican pollsters who believe that Trump has mucked it up so bad that the Georgia Senate is lost. Hope that is true, but you never know.
In the spirit of negotiation maybe we can dispense with the election and give each party one senator.

DC just mobilized the DC National Guard in preparation for the festivities on Wendsday.
I got a sick feeling there will be violence for no other reason then the Proud Morons will think they will look weak if there is no violence after all the coverage this DC protest is getting.

...

Yesterday, some Republican House members put out a statement opposing the coup. Part of their argumentation is ... interesting:
Republican presidential candidates have won the national popular vote only once in the last 32 years. They have therefore depended on the electoral college for nearly all presidential victories in the last generation.

Said with no embarrassment.

That doesn't work for me, because in the movie, like 11 of the 12 redeemed themselves. These senators will never do that.

The fact that Lindsey Graham isn't one of them proves there's hope for everyone.

Unless Lindsey Graham is keeping his head down because that call sounded pretty similar to his own...

Not to drag out this stupid point but, if I say you didn't understand what I'm saying, how is someone telling me I didn't understand them any more valid?

I get it Clinton would never say what Trump said most recently. That was never the issue.

Here's what was said: "Killary"? really?

Gallows? Really?

Why is anyone defending this piss-poor example? I thought it was out of line, I don't care that, d'uh, they didn't mean it would actually happen.

But you are dragging it out

The whole elector kerfuffle might go over into THrusday.
Which is good news. The Longer it goes on, the more the GOP hurts itself with all but it's base.

Or maybe it has dawned on Graham that his ass kissing of Trump has earned him nothing except making a national laughing stock....even other GOPers snicker at his servility to Dear Leader.

The only time frame that matters is how it affects the Georgia mid-terms. Once they get past that date, then even if there is a ton of infighting in the GOP, it will probably all blow over by the 2022 midterms..

All of it is... interesting. It boils down to "We believe all the conspiracy theories but we can't do anything about it and it's in our longer term interests not to rock the boat." It's as much part of the delegitimization of democracy as anything Trump's said or done.

Dave

Yeah, the bold stand of, "The dice are rigged in our favor. Let's not have them thrown away over any one particular roll..."

I love their reasoning. It works well as very high-level satire. Any statement that the GOP has won the popular vote only once in 32 years is framing this perfectly. "This anti-democratic workaround could interfere with our other anti-democratic workaround!"

But I seem to be in a very contrarian mood today. I am happy to see Republicans attacking other Republicans at this level.

Democrats plus even 25 percent of Republicans is a coalition.

Seen from faraway Belgium, it's utterly amazing that the GOP will do almost everything to "win" elections, except the obvious: try to better align with voters expectations in a changing America.
Trump and his current enablers push that MO to the extreme, but it has been true for many years now.

It is not possible. That would mean less tax cuts for billionaires and things like that. What's point of having party in your pocket if you cannot influence laws for your gain and at expense of everyone else?

Head of Proud Boys busted by DC police on a illegal weapons ;alos to be charged with burning that BLM banner taken from a church with a petty theft charge probably thrown in.
Man, it's so tought to be a Noble Aryan Warrior nowdays.....
