Trump immigrant family separation policy

East coast southerners can be rest assured that even though there isn't money to help with hurricane relief, at least them damned ferners will be jailed!
To be fair, it's a multi-billion-dollar budget, a bucket in which $10 million is a mere drop. Still, it shows where the priorities are.

Yeah, pretty much. It might be worth looking into how ICE is doing with their budget, too, after a transfer like that, and why Sessions thought that it was somehow a good idea.

At least we now have FEMA concentration camps. That has to please Alex Jones.

Hmm... speaking of this, CNN has something of note to say.

The Trump administration this summer quietly redirected $200 million from all over the Department of Homeland Security to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, despite repeated congressional warnings of ICE's "lack of fiscal discipline" and "unsustainable" spending.

What, this still isn't resolved? What the **** are they waiting for?

For the masses to move on to the next outrage of the moment.

And to be 100% clear I don't mean that in the sense that the actions of this administration aren't outrageous, just that they know the masses are a fickle beast who get bored with whatever it is they are upset about pretty quick.

Well, here we are, and they cannot put the families back together. I wonder how many children have been abused, and are still living in terror. If they'd kindly keep people at a safe distance, somebody ought to drop a MOAB on that lying eyesore, the Statue of "Liberty."

Hmm? What's this? It's very much not a matter of "cannot." It's "don't want to."

He's also paying Mexico $20m to deport immigrants. Which is the opposite of how he said transactions between the two countries would go when it came to immigration policy.

We all heard he'll get Mexico to pay for it. What he really said was we'd pay Mexico for it........

From the NYT article linked to above:

Facilities like the one in Tornillo are also more expensive to operate, according to Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations subcommittee that funds the shelter program. She said such facilities cost about $750 per child per day, or three times the amount of a typical shelter.
Nowhere in that article do I see what exactly they're comparing the cost to. It's 3 times the amount of "a typical shelter," but I have no idea what distinction they are drawing between the tent cities and "typical" shelters and why they are more expensive.

Are they amortizing the cost of new tents, maybe? And who exactly is getting this money? That's $22,500 per month, per child. Just send the kids home with a cash settlement that their family can use to move to better neighborhoods or send their kids to private schools.

The only thing wrong with giving Mexico $20M is that the government will probably keep most of it, while the families could use grants to improve their conditions. Maybe it's all different under the new president but I kind of doubt it.

From what I can tell from the article, I don't think these are separated children but teenagers who came on their own, and they are from Central America, not Mexico.

ETA: The new president hasn't taken office yet, they have a 5-month lag time.
