Tokyo gathering: FEAST

Kimpatsu is probably still fighting with NTT to get his connection hooked up in the new place.
Absolutely right. I'm back as of today, July 21st, so it's appropriate to say: The Eagle has landed!
I've now got a fibreoptic connection with a brand new Pentium 4 PC. Downloads are out of this world!
Thanks again guys, for a truly good time was had by all.
So, when are we going to do it again?

Glad to see Kimpatsu is still alive. After staggering off from Roppongi and not showing up on the forum for awhile, I was beginning to worry. :D

I'm up for another get together anytime! But it seems like Loon is off having fun in California, so maybe sometime in August. It would be nice to do it again while the weather is still nice.

...As opposed to breaking all records, like this week? 39.5C with humidity in the 90s.
August sounds good. Pick a date.

Another Feast!

Calling all Tokyo-based skeptics:
In light of the success ofthe last feast, and in conjunction with Internet Infidels, the time has come to hold another banquet. The tentative date will be 10 April from 13:00 hours at the Hobgoblin in Roppongi.
Any takers? Please sign up here, so I can get a rough head count.
Thank you.

If I'm in Japan at the time, that'd be neat. But first I need to get hired for ESL, etc. Short timing, tho.
You probably won't make it this time around, but we'll strive for another time.
WTF are all the others who came last time? Why are they ignoring this thread?!

They might not be checking this sub-forum that often. Give it a few days, and/or PM.
They should be automatically subscribed to this thread, which is why I resuscitated it, rather than start a new one.

Yeah yeah....I'm reading your thread. How's my favorite crazy Englishman? I was actually thinking about bringing up the same thing, so I'm up for it. Hopefully the other guys will notice this and come along too. Have you tried PMs?

Looking forward to putting down a few pints and chatting again. Unfortunately, I don't think that guy will be out there grilling burgers this time... :(

and Big Nickel....are you having trouble finding available jobs? There's loads of English teaching jobs. If you haven't yet, try a search on the net for Gaijin Pot. They send out a weekly email with jobs in it and there are usually at least 10 ESL jobs a week in there.

It's a little cold for outdoor cookouts, DV, but the same venu should suffice. April 10 at 13:00, say?

Your math is off. That's per message, at about 5 a week.

April 10 at 1 pm? I think I can swing that.

Yeah, I think you're right. Needless to say, there's lots.

I don't know if you got my message, but I called you. At least, I called the number that I had for you and left a message on some machine. Just wanted to give you a heads up on this get together, but it looks like you had already found it.

I'm interviewing with Aeon up in Chicago in 1 1/2 weeks. Seems like easiest course, since they set you up in an apartment and everything.

I've heard too much about how much Nova sucks to consider them for anything.

I don't think you'll find much difference between NO VAcations and "their lessons feel like they last for" Aeon(s), actually.
I'm just glad I'm not an English teacher.

Hey Kimpatsu, how expensive is Tokyo compared to Kyoto or Osaka? Food-wise, apartment-wise, etc....
Far more expensive. Tokyo is the most expensive city on Earth. To use the beer example: Guinness is 900 to 950 yen in most gaijin bars (1,000 in some places), as opposed to 800 in Osaka.
Noodles cost about the same, though.

Is anyone else on this thread coming to next Sunday's gathering?

Looks like me, Loon, and you Tony. Although Loon sounded a bit tentative about it. Hope it's not raining as bad as it is this morning. Cold and wet is not fun.

Well, not even I can control the weather, but there will be one more person in attendance; a member of the Internet Infidels who currently resides in Saitama. That should be enough for a decent lunch party at the Hobgoblin.
Look forward to seeing you there.

If anyone else would like to come, we are meeting at the same place as last time (Roppongi Hobgoblin) from 13:00 hrs. At least four people will be there.
Regards,
