Tokyo gathering: FEAST

The 4th sounds good to me. I think I've been to both of those bars, exucse me, "pubs" at one time or another, but drinking outside is nice so I'll throw in my vote for Roppongi.

So, just the 4 of us then? Planning to bring anyone with you? Of course then it's, "um....these are my friends, I mean, acquantances from um, (cough) the internet (cough)." :D

Guess we better PM our real names, because I don't feel like walking up to everyone going, "Excuse me, are you Loon/Voob/Kimpatsu?" :p

July 4 it is then. I shall drown my sorrows at these upstart colonials who still owe 200 years back taxes to the British crown... :p
I'll periodically bump this thread to keep it fresh in people's minds.
As to my real name, it's right up there in my signature block...

Just as long as you don't expect me to buy enough rounds to cover that tax bill! :D

But Loon referred to "football" as "soccer", so I suspect that I'm not the only Yank in this group. Either that, or he's been in Japan too long.

It's true; I find myself adopting Americanisms because the Japanese can't follow British idiom.
On the tax issue, as long as you drink nectar, I'll forgive you your transgressions against His Soverign Majesty... ;)

How ironic that I discovered this thread while taking a break from my nihongo vocab cards.

Alas: St. Louis MO might as well be at the opposite end of the planet.

PS Mah Jongg players are hard to come by here, too.

Try living in New York. It is on the opposite side of the planet.

But, I refuse to seethe in petulant jealousy and bitter pouting associated with being unable to go back to a country any time soon whose mere thought sends me into nostaligic raptures... no, no, not me.

In response to the overwhelming demand (i.e., Kimpatsu suggested it and me and Voob and Delivering Vito are in the region), I announce the First Ever Assembly of Skeptics in Tokyo (FEAST).

Sometime in June or July, depending on availability and Kimpatsu's move to Kawasaki.

Confirmed so far is me, living in Wakou and working in Shinjuku.

Other potential FEASTers:

Voob from Mito (Ibaraki)

Kimpatsu (Kawasaki, eventually)

Delivering Vito (Tokyo, I think)

Feel Free to confirm your attenance if you've been liste, announec your presence if you haven't and discuss times and places!

Edited to make you wonder what I changed. :)

Isn't Agur invited? :D

Edited to add: Thank you.

Yup. I'm a Yank.

So we've two Yanks, a Brit and a Canuck, unless I miss my count.

Do we want to set a meeting time and location yet? I favor meeting around two o'clock in front of Almond. Any other thoughts?

Oh yeah, I still have agur's email. And if you want to meet in Akabane, we might be able to visit his office. If it's still there.

Just like to mention that Suwa is the sister city to St. Louis.

As for the Irish drinking mentions, Galway is also sister city to St. Louis.

No, no no! Don't invite Agur. He'll hex the weather!
I figure that people will turn up throughout the afternoon, so why don't we just all rendez-vous at the Hobgoblin?
As to time, if we're going to have lunch, I favour 1:00 pm; I'm not sure I can hold out till 2:00 pm for food...

The Galway is also an Irish pub in Hachioji, so now we have come full circle...

I know where Tsukuba is.
Come and join us on the 4th.

So we begin gathering at 1 pm at the Hobgoblin in Roppongi. All are welcome.

We should probably exchange phone numbers/skymail addresses before the 4th.

My mobile number is as follows:

Call me if you get lost.

There now follows a strange tale for all who plan to attend this Tokyo gathering.
A fortnight ago I received an e-mail from a freind in England who asked for my help in finding accommodation for a third party acquaitance of his who is moving to Tokyo. Guess what? The man's name is Rob Gascoigne, and as of 30 June, he will be the new manager of... the Roppongi Hobgoblin!
Synchronicity, or something more sinister?

I vote for sinister, unless he's going to improve the menu at the Hobgoblin (It went from great to good. A return to great would be appreciated.)

*Note: all evaluations in the preceeding paragraph are based on the Tokyo British pub scale, and should therefore not be intended for use as reference with british pubs in other countries.

Well, in return for your assistance, I would hope that he will reciprocate with a round of drinks for you and your skeptical mates. wink wink. ;)
