Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (part 3)

Do you really live in the USA?

Wait 5 minutes. Someone somewhere will be shot in the USA.

So again... What's YOUR solution to the out-of-control shooting situation in the USA?

No...No...No!!! This thread is just to list out shootings. We are not supposed to come to any conclusions based on the incidents. Think of it as your fridge door where you pin up your fellow citizens' achievements.

Nah. Gun homicide is concerntrated in certain places. But its verboten to notice the demographics of those places. So the suburban NRA guy is cast as the villian.

It's obvious that in absolute numbers there will be a tendency to find crime to concentrate where people concentrate.

But if you consider crime on a per capita basis, rural areas can beat the cities. Sometimes shockingly so. Perhaps someone might know of areas where rural whites are blasting away at each other at rates greater than of urban blacks?

Please do tell us! In mainly rural Montana and Wyoming, which have the highest gun ownership rates in the US, surely there must be mass gun homicide. Surely!

Here comes the amateur sociologist

Either people go there with the intent of dying, or they shoot themselves because they can't get out.

It would be interesting to know where in the immensity of Montana most suicides take place. I'd hazard a guess that it happens most often in the eastern, or Great Plains, region. I'd also guess that it's most likely to happen on NA reservations.

And I'd expect it to occur most frequently in mid winter.

Reading that reference, you can see that is indeed the case.

Now imagine if there were far fewer guns...

Thank you, but

I can't open the link. No matter, the data will be somewhere else.

About the availability of guns out West, especially in the mountain states: Hunting is important to working families, and access to a high power rifle (or even a .30-30) is justifiable. Ditto shotguns and .22s. (Hell, I grew up on wild game, and life would've been a damn sight harder without it.) Firearms control must take such arms into consideration, and not just out West. You can hunt whitetails half an hour's drive from downtown Chicago.

And that could make banning objectionable guns easier. Nobody can justify carrying an AR or handgun for hunting purposes. If he lives in a city, he'll have to argue damned hard to convince me that he should have actual hunting arms under his immediate control. He can store them under lock and key, and leave the key with the police. He'll no I'm not kidding.

Howsomever, I'm an extremist on gun restriction. That stance has been forced on me by a lifelong familiarity with smokepoles and the guys who get creamy-eyed over them.

I don't eat wild animals anymore either.

Your ass, pal, and your head.
I have nearly 2600 posts on this board, I'm sure you can find quotes to provide. Chop chop.

And still no solution proffered. Care to try?
Already did. I say lock up the criminals who have committed previous gun crimes. But I assume that you, along with others, would prefer to focus on smoking poles or pole smokes or smoke poles, or whatever sack is calling guns these days.

I said "far fewer", not "none". And did you have any AR growing up? Or at any time outside of any possible military service?

You have no idea who you are talking to, do you.

Ok, so your solution is basically to take the gun from some rampage shooter's cold dead hand while they carry his victim's body parts out on stretchers and hose all the gore from the classrooms. Don’t do anything until AFTER it happens. Got it.

Unless the shooter is black. Then you add "Make racist jokes" to your solution .

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was remarking on the near-necessity of hunting firearms among the poor out West. Their misuse is a given.

I don't understand your questions. Of course my family had no use for things like WW2 Sturmgewehrs or 1950s AKs. No sensible, reasonable person did then or does now. (The AR15s that are so lamentably numerous today are almost entirely chambered for 5.56 NATO, which is not legal for hunting hooved game in Wyoming or, as far as I know and devoutly hope, in any other state or province or Finland.) That's what makes them and similar guns candidates for increasingly stringent regulation.

Then just add "register your owned firearms" to your description and you have pretty much how Australia manages guns. We have "ranchers" and hunters too.

Sounds good. I hope that such regulations would be enforceable on NA reservations, or that the tribes would adopt identical regs.

Christ, there's nothing infeasible about registering guns.

Post before this one.
nothing I posted can possibly be twisted into "the rules" you and the Don have lied about me making.

I posted this shooting and mentioned Mother Jones and Statista in reference to Nessie's earlier posts where he wondered why some organizations are counting less than 150 mass shootings when there have been thousands.

You have no idea who you are talking to, do you.
I do, I'm talking to a liar.

No, I posted data earlier from Connecticut shootings, you should reread it. Incarcerating people who commit gun crimes will prevent a **** ton of future shootings.
