When you read the above reports and you calculate the current NATO SECURED areas of Afghanistan that have less than one insurgent attack per month and calculate those areas with local residents who don’t believe the Taliban is active locally such as collecting taxes, recruiting, holding court and etc, (based on no Taliban sightings in news and other reports) you get less than 3% of secured NATO controlled areas of Afghanistan and when you subtract it from 100% of Afghan land you get 97% of unsecured Afghanistan that’s under Taliban influence such as collecting taxes, recruiting, holding court and etc. And that is a CONSERVATIVE figure because many Taliban sittings/incidents go unreported now that they have become an everyday occurrence. There are reports that claim ALL of Afghanistan is now under Taliban influence even within the capital city, Kabul, in the NATO strong hold itself the Taliban are said to be collecting taxes, recruiting, holding court and that even members of the Afghan Government are interested in joining or already have joined the Taliban.
