...Shall Not Be Infringed

Total BS...

Like most first world countries- it is quite possible to get a gun legally, hell its not even that hard here....

It is a damn sight harder getting a commercial marine radio licence than a gun licence....
Oh okay. So gun ownership is the default, and the state must justify denying it, in Australia. That's not what I've been led to believe. But you know better: Australians are entitled to own any kind of gun they want, unless the state can satisfy the high court that an exception should be made.

The vast majority of gun owners never shoot anyone. Its only a very tiny fraction.

There are many other societies that have lots of guns, and MUCH lower violent crime rates than the USA. Clearly the problem is not too many guns.
I guess it's that Americans are just inherently more violent than other people. They have more violent genes? They're genetically less inclined to peace and harmony?

Come off it.

I don't think anyone is actually interested in killing people.
But they will at the drop of a hat if they decide that they have to.

Just because you want to be able to defend yourself doesn't mean you WANT to shoot anyone.
When you have a gun for self-defence, the two are the same. If you have a gun and you decide on the need for self-defence, are you saying that you're not going to use it?

Yes, many US metropolitan areas have a lot of crime. Hard to get away from it unless you live and stay in rural areas.
It may interest you to know that other countries have metropolitan areas too, and many of those metropolitan areas also have a lot of crime. You know what the difference is? Our crime is less often fatal. Do you have any clue why that might be the case?

Australia. Not allowed is the default. Citizens have to appeal to the state for an exception.
I'm going to disagree with @Dabop here and say yes - not allowed is the default. Furthermore I think that is a good thing. Most people - the vast majority, in fact - don't need a gun. They have no reason to. There are a small number of sporting shooters and hunters, recreational and commercial, but for the most part, there is no need for ownership to be the default. There's also no reason why most people need plutonium, so not allowed is the default there too.

Hitler, Stalin, and Kim Jong-Un agree with you.

Appreciate the confirmation. What an awful place to live, though.
Yes, sometimes the USA is pretty awful.

Like driver's licenses. You don't automatically get one issued to you when you turn 17 (or however old you need to be to be allowed drive). You need to pass various skill and knowledge tests first, and not be a criminal psychopath or something. So "allowed", yes. "Granted by default", no.

Trump has proven to be an anti-gun zealot since 2018. The most pro-gun thing Trump has done since 2016 was to sign the BBB HR-1 earlier this year which reduced the NFA tax on silencers and SBR's from $200 to $0. Compared to Trump, Obama was very pro-gun. :)

What I objected to was the loaded 'crawling to the government' nonsense that usually comes from the US far right idiots lol

Its nothing of the sort- do your training, have your gun safe installed and checked, get your license, and after the cooling off period, buy your gun/s...

Getting your truck licence is a LOT more work- takes a LOT longer, and costs a lot more money than getting a gun licence...

What I object to is that loaded message that we are 'all slaves' except the free gunstrokers....

Ironically, its the ones that get off on gun ownership/ammosexuals that usually are the ones who SHOULDN'T have any weapons....

This is all you. I didn't say or imply any of it.
