Send in the tanks! (Chavez)

How much time do we give our politicans to bring the changes we want?
several years mostly. and mostly they have not nearly as much to change as the Venezuelan politicans.
Yes, dictators can change things rapidly. Democracy works much slower.

yes exactly, thanks for agreeing.

especially it is said that Direct democracys are even slower.
and Venezuela is a Direct democracy.

Lula pointed out a funny doublestandard.

Just read the Newsarticles about Therm limits removal.

read those about Empire enemy Chavez.
read those about Bush friend Uribe.

It demonstrates the mediabias very well.

(Will "Dictator" Bloomberg get his will? ;) )

Yeah, that's very telling.

Colombia and Venezuela: Testing the Propaganda Model

In sum, the two papers [WP and NYT] published 30 articles and 15 editorials on Chávez’s [2007] bid to extend term limits; two articles and no editorials appeared when Uribe did the same. The tally on the freedom of speech issue is even more dramatic: 19 articles and two editorials on the RCTV affair, compared with a complete black-out regarding Inravisión. We can reasonably conclude that the propaganda model—which predicts systematic media bias in favor of official friends and against official enemies—holds for coverage of Colombia and Venezuela in the United States’ two leading “liberal” newspapers.

Wouldnt Milton Friedman have agreed to remove term limits?

to let the customer decide.
I bet he would not have supported that you need to buy a Ford, just because you buyed Chevrolet 2 times ;)

Chavez changed things quickly by getting his party which controls the legislature to grant him the power to rule by decree.

Nothing at all democratic about ruling by decree. Quite a good fit with dictatorships though.

That "rule by decree" was granted for very specific areas for a period of 18 months starting in early 2007. It's over, Cat. You don't have to worry anymore.
Until if and when he wins in his push to abolish term limits.

Funny, that apologist web site doesn't mention how those powers included nationalizing any industry he sees fit and shutting down opposition media. The comparison to the American Revolution was just bizarre.

Quick?
A decade under Chavez and still problems. Isnt that what you keep pointing out here?

with the decress they speeded up the slow direct democracy.
and that was for some still not enough, they want quicker and more radical solutions.

considered the political diversity in Venezuela , Chavez is pretty center.
but i guess you are not interested what venezuelans want, you are interested what serves your oil supply best.

Problems are worse now. Chavez had a brief reprieve due to high oil prices but that crutch has been kicked out from under him.

Brilliant! Straight out of Orwell's 1984!

evidence? i agree on murder rate.
what about health care?
what about education?
what about poverty?

you have profited decades of cheap oil.....
they have now profited a few months of a high price.
and they acted wisley and invested alot into non oilindustry. to creat a more balanced economy to gain more independence.

Oddly enough, CE's article written at "the start" of that didn't mention any of those things.

i didnt read her article yet.

but it is actually well known, when one is interested in the happenings in venezuela and is not only paroting the anti venezuelan propaganda from the western media....
