School shooting Florida

What I love is the way the right wing yappers are putting down the Parkland survivors.

It shows that they are having an effect. They are making a difference.

By the way, lest anyone repeat some of the personal insults thrown at them, we understand that they are 17 years old. We understand that they talk like 17 year olds. We understand that some of what they say doesn't form a coherent, logical, argument. We understand that they didn't do all of this by themselves, because 17 year olds don't know how to do that sort of thing.

But above all, we understand that this issue is so simple even a child can understand it.
we understand that they talk like justifiably angry 17 year olds.

It’s fine for children to speak like children.

It’s embarrassing for the anti-gun side and the country as a whole when childish, incoherent, illogical arguments are put forward on a serious topic.

A skeptic forum should understand that appeals to emotion are not an acceptable substitute for reason and logic.

First:

And then:

Nothing says “conspiratard theory” like linking to a mainstream media source discussing the very thing you previously alleged was being covered up.

Nothing exposes a conspiratard theory as much as a mainstream media source admitting that the very thing that has been dismissed as a "conspiracy theory" is actually what really happened.

Now that Emma has admitted to bullying Cruz since they were in middle school, her credibility as an anti-gun anti-violence advocate is shot. Not only is she not a victim of a school shooting, she is one of the people who actually provoked it!

No. But nice try. I don't think you're going to trick anyone into believing that her anti-gun message is wrong.

Character assassination of the survivors of a school shooting can tend to backfire, because it doesn't sit well with many.

In the UK, when someone is bullied (like my niece) they can sometimes be removed from school, sometimes some action is taken against the bullies and it works, sometimes, tragically, a bullied child commits suicide. What doesn't happen is that a bullied child takes an easily available gun into school and kills 17 people. You can tackle bullying, you can tackle mental health issues but untill you tackle gun and ammunition availability and the gun culture mentality it will only take one or two people having a bad day for more mass shootings and more deaths. And in a country of 300 Million+ people there are a lot of those people having a bad day. You don't agree that this movement has the right answers. Fine. What action do you think would address this issue? When you have identified that get out there an try and effect change. That is what these kids and the people who support them are doing and I have nothing but respect for them, including Emma.

You're making some strange leaps of 'logic' here.

I fail to see how her being a bully impacts in any way her credibility as an anti-fun anti-violence advocate.

I also don't understand how you believe she isn't a victim of a school shooting here. She might have contributed and not helped the situation. She however wasn't the one who ultimately decided to pull the trigger.

Feel free to enlighten me though.

The right wing is trying to spin Emma as being a bully. She said they ostracized him, which merely means that they did not accept him as a peer. Cruz was blatantly racist and had expressed support for Nazism when he was in high school. To expect people to accept him, or even tolerate him, when he used hate speech is dumb. It is so strange that the right wing defends Nazis openly these days, they used to use dog whistles.

Presumably the suggestions already made, so arm the teachers when they are in school, replace glass in schools with bulletproof glass, reinforced walls and doors so can't be shot through,

When those kids actually get into power, in 30/40 years time, there may be change then.

By then they'll be much better educated and understand that it's impossible to change the status quo. They will also have jobs and pensions to protect and children to worry about and will be much, much more susceptible to the demagoguery that's infesting the world. I think change is unlikely.

People were saying the same about dictators and animal conservation in the past couple years. And lo and behold we have simply moved into the next attention seeking cause of the week.

[Homer] Remember kids, the lesson here is never try.[/homer]

They are all crisis actors anyway. Keep up with the official position of the gun community. That is the side of the respectable adults.
