Cont: Roe v Wade overturned - this is some BS part II

Clarence Thomas has already announced that birth control is next on their list.

Correct. Texas doesn't have a ban on women traveling out of state to get an abortion.
Don't underestimate Texas.

Several Texas counties (Lubbock, Cochran, Mitchell, Goliad) have already banned travel through those counties to get an abortion. The city of Odessa has a similar ban in place, and Amarillo is considering such a ban.

The DoJ is supporting the right to interstate travel, but the local bans are more pernicious because a sufficient number of local bans in counties and towns near a border can make it extremely difficult to travel across that border.

Furthermore, the bans in Texas mostly rely on a subterfuge the US Supreme Court has thus far refused to curb. The state of Texas does not consider such travel to be a criminal offense, but authorizes private citizens of Texas to bring civil lawsuits against those who violate the ban.

Ann Coulter describes herself as an "anti-abortion zealot?"

Oddly, Coulter is both unmarried and childless. She posted the below back in 2017 when she was opposing a Republican initiative for a larger child care tax credit. Newsweek reported at the time that "Coulter specifically took umbrage with the federal government rewarding individuals who choose to marry and/or have children."

This is all hyperbolic news, it will never happen like this, according to Republicans in this forum.

I just shake my head at that. It's unbelievable. I was 19 when Roe v Wade was established and lived almost my entire reproductive life with it. Although I never had to use that freedom of choice, I knew several who did. To see what the current Supreme Court has brought down on this country is more than frightening and disgusting. You could not pay me enough to live in Texas or any Republican dominated state.

The US is ****** in so many ways it's hard to keep count.

Late next year it gets much worse.

Liberals have been warning about his for years. Even Liz Cheney has pretty much come out and said it... If the Fat Orange Turd is elected to the presidency in 2024, he will never leave office, and the 2024 election will be the USA's last.

My biggest worry regard to Kate Cox is that, now she has left the state to get her life-saving abortion, will the Texas AG have her prosecuted when she returns? As W.D. Clinger said earlier, "don't underestimate Texas".

If I were in the shoes of her family, I would leave Texas and never come back. Move to a blue state.

There is also little doubt in my mind that she would have been being watched by the rabid anti-aborton crowd to see if or when was going to leave the state. If Texas counties are prepared to target abortion seekers by making it illegal to drive through their county to seek an abortion, then there is no limit to what else they will try. This whole issue with Texas has reinforced my belief that my friend, the West Virginia nurse who gives advice on what you must do if seeking an out of state abortion, is giving good advice.

Ah, the memories.

I started a thread long before this one saying that America would ban abortion in the near future. Republican posters pooh-poohed the idea that Roe would ever be repealed.

And as you say, their silence is deafening.

Those sluts deserve to die.

Nah, it's more like they're left with... "Oh, why won't you think of all the babies! You're a monster if you don't want to help babies! Nevermind when the fetus is non-viable/already dead/etc, why don't you want to save it, you monster!"

Obviously not ground that many are willing to try to fight on.

It's not like the forced birthers *ever* had any real ground to stand on, of course. The religion angle was always politics trying to disguise itself as religion. Heck, "God" itself apparently outright gives a method to potentially force an abortion in Numbers. The claim that they actually desire fewer abortions pretty well falls apart in the face of overall policy effects - Republican policy enhances the motivations to have abortions and works to remove the things proven to reduce abortion rates while Democratic Party policy works to reduce motivation and increase the things that mitigate actual rates. The one main potential exception, legality, has remarkably little to show when it comes to its actual effects on rates overall and very significant negative side effects on top of that when it's either illegal or effectively so.

Their other angles are no better on examination, really, I think. A dislike of abortion is shared across the political spectrum, at last check, though, with reason driving one side's mitigation efforts and mob emotion driving the other's side at the behest of conmen.

In other ridiculous and heartless case:

Watts faces up to two years in prison.

This happened to my grandmother in the 1930's. She had a miscarriage into a toilet. She was far enough along that she could see it was a girl. She buried it in the backyard and never reported it.

By the way, following up on this I note a recent AP item on this, which mentions that the reason this woman was in a position to miscarry was that after multiple visits to the hospital, the doctors, knowing that she was bleeding, referred there by her own doctor, and the pregnancy was not viable, sere afraid of the legal repercussions if they were seen as having performed an abortion. Among other things, the article suggests a discrepancy between the woman's and the prosecutor's account of just what was found where and by whom, though I don't think that matters by itself either way.

From https://arstechnica.com/science/2023/12/cvs-rite-aid-walgreens-hand-out-medical-records-to-cops-without-warrants/:

All of the big pharmacy chains in the US hand over sensitive medical records to law enforcement without a warrant—and some will do so without even running the requests by a legal professional, according to a congressional investigation.

The revelation raises grave medical privacy concerns, particularly in a post-Dobbs era in which many states are working to criminalize reproductive health care. Even if people in states with restrictive laws cross state lines for care, pharmacists in massive chains, such as CVS, can access records across borders.

Lawmakers noted the pharmacies' policies for releasing medical records in a letter dated Tuesday to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra. The letter—signed by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.)—said their investigation pulled information from briefings with eight big prescription drug suppliers.

They include the seven largest pharmacy chains in the country: CVS Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Cigna, Optum Rx, Walmart Stores, Inc., The Kroger Company, and Rite Aid Corporation. The lawmakers also spoke with Amazon Pharmacy.

Getting older has few upsides for women. Not having to deal with this crap now is definitely one of them.
