Randi on Anderson Cooper 360

Wow. I wish they had let her keep talking more. She was weakening her position faster than Randi could ever hope to. I can't stop snickering.

I hit the wall. If the whole story that spawned this recent development wasn't so sad, I would be up all night laughing.

Linda Rossi did more damage to Browne than Randi did. Nonetheless, Randi and Cooper were great.

Cooper says to Rossi, "That's like a high school debating tactic to attack the guy who's asking the questions as opposed to answering the actual questions. By me asking questions does that make me Godless too?"

Last year or the year before when Sylvia was on Larry King a professor from the University of Central Oklahoma (I think Brian Farha) called and asked her why she wouldn't take the challenge even though she'd previously agreed.

Yes that was the one. A good show and Farha did well. They stomped over his time and wouldn't shut up too.

The transcript might be interesting reading. The Rabbi (can't remember his name) was doing fairly well against her when she whipped out the 'spiritual minister' card that time, instead of the 'atheist' card like she did this time. She claimed they were both providing the same 'service' so he had no right to criticize. blah blah blah.

I was not completely pleased with CNN's treatment tonight. Humm, there's better people'n me here to call them out. There are a lot of subtle things they do to show sympathy for Sylvia & co... beyond not demanding that she actually show up in person. Randi's image is consistently smaller than Sylvia's when they are both on the screen, a cheap theater trick. Sylvia's manager kept getting Sylvia Browne's marquee under her face, encouraging a mistake that she was actually Browne showing up in person, rather than a minor priestess sent because appearing would be beneath the Great and Too Spiritual to Appear Sylvia.

That was a good one, but Farha should have had more time:

CNN LARRY KING LIVE

Are Psychics for Real?

Aired December 28, 2005

LARRY KING, CNN HOST: Tonight, can we really talk to the dead? Psychics versus skeptics who do you believe? With us some of America's best known psychics, James Van Praagh, who says he's clairvoyant that he feels and sees the emotions of the deceased; Sylvia Browne, she calls herself a psychic on a mission for God.

Char Margolis describes herself as a spiritual intuitive; and, in the skeptics corner, best-selling rabbi and author Shmuley Boteach and Dr. Bryan Farha who has written articles questioning whether Sylvia Browne's a quack. They're all next on LARRY KING LIVE.
...
KING: Dr. Farha, why aren't you open to the possibility of a dimension you don't know?

FARHA: Are you talking to me, Larry?

KING: Yes.

FARHA: I am open to that dimension. I'm open to the possibility. I'm not open to the idea that these people have proven it. They are backing away from the word proof, yet Sylvia on your program, said she has proven an afterlife. James' website says he has proven an afterlife. And, Char, in your opening today said she used the word prove. And so I'm having trouble with this, Larry.
...
FARHA: Sylvia here's what it is. You asked me. You lied to me on May 16th of 2003 on Larry's show and when I was a caller. I asked you why you keep promising to be tested by the James Randy Educational Foundation for...

BROWNE: Because it's -- no.

FARHA: ...your alleged psychic -- wait a minute, Sylvia. Sylvia, stop.

BROWNE: That's not (INAUDIBLE).

FARHA: Sylvia, Sylvia you interrupted me three times that night on the program and I'd like to finish, please. I asked you why you did -- why you've been avoiding his test. You said Randy can't verify that he has the money. Randy and I both -- you said if I send you or Randy sends you verification of the money that you would take the test. You said that on Larry's show on May 16th.

KING: Yes, you did.

BROWNE: Yes, I did.

FARHA: Yes, you did Sylvia. Wait a minute, Sylvia, I'm not finished. So the next week Randy and I both sent you...

KING: You will be in a minute. I got to break doctor. What did you send her?

FARHA: We sent you, we sent you verification of the money, Sylvia and you refused the mail and returned it to sender, so I thought I'd show it to you tonight so that you can't avoid that any longer.

BROWNE: Oh, that's good.

(CROSSTALK)

FARHA: Did you see that Sylvia?

KING: Let me take a break.

FARHA: There's $1 million.

KING: OK, why wouldn't you...

FARHA: There's $1 million Sylvia.

KING: ...take him up on that offer? We'll tell him. We'll take a...

BROWNE: OK.

Yeah, deja vu.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0512/28/lkl.01.html

BROWNE: You know, Rabbi, I don't see what you're doing any different than what we're doing. You give, hopefully you give hope, you give help, hopefully do you this. If I were coming to you in a state of distress, would you not counsel me?

BOTEACH: Well...

BROWNE: ... would you not counsel me?

BOTEACH: Of course I would, Sylvia.

BROWNE: Well then are you taking advantage of me?

BOTEACH: No, because I'm not claiming to any power that I don't have. And secondly...

BROWNE: But you're a rabbi. You have religious beliefs.

BOTEACH: Sylvia, let me answer your question.

BROWNE: Don't keep talking over me, Rabbi because that's not kind, that's not even kind to a woman. Why would you not think that we cannot give solace and proof and all of this goodness from God that you're doing? What is so different about that? Just because we have a little bit of a dimensional thing in which we say that we can talk to someone? Why is that any different?

BOTEACH: First of all, if I spoke over you, I apologize. I happen to like you very much. You once did my radio show. I think all three of you are extremely special people. I just disagree with the things you do.

BROWNE: No, but you don't seem to be that way. You're very confrontational.

That last line is a milk spitter.

Yeah, Sylvia has never asked for money? So everybody just donates exactly $700 at random? How nice of them.

In much the same way that hookers don't charge for sex, just for their time and companionship.

Kudos to Anderson Cooper for not backing down and pointing out that Sylvia's "hits" were all made after the info had become public.

And will RSL get a royalty check for his appearance?;)

Steve S.

One question SB supporters should ask is, "Why didn't Sylvia appear on the program herself?" After all, this was a very important, public forum for her to air her views. But then, Anderson Cooper is not a softball like Larry King. Although I did like his comment "I know it's common to shout on these cable news shows, but we don't do that here."

P.S.: Kudos to Mr. Lancaster for having a bit of his segment about Sylvia air again. I think once you’re on CNN twice you can officially call yourself a T.V. star ;)
Please send your kudos through my agent. :)

And will RSL get a royalty check for his appearance?;)
Yes, I'm sure it will be exactly twice as large as the first one! :D

I've actually received a series of emails from some guy who is convinced that I earned money for that. "It's just common sense" he says. Only he didn't use an apostrophe or an upper-case "I".
