POTUS Obama Reneges On Promise To Allow C-SPAN Access To Congress HC Negotiations?

OF all those promises, wouldn't getting Pelosi to allow C-SPAN cameras in on the health care debate from start to finish be the easiest to accomplish?
Definitely not. The examples I mentioned were all things that could best be fixed by executive order. (In many cases, they would merely be executive orders undoing previous presidents' executive orders.)

Pelosi is the speaker of the House, and not directly answerable to Obama in the way you seem to think. Obama cannot tell her how to do her job, and Pelosi has no obligation to fulfill promises he made.

To sign an executive order, Obama would merely need to decide to do it, and do it.

And how do you know that Obama has not encouraged or urged Pelosi to do as you're suggesting anyway?

Benighted responses by libs to why Pelosi would stiff arm the POTUS on his campaign promise are expected, but the lack of creativity in these replies is disappointing.

Making crap up is to be expected of blind partisans, but the level of fantasy in your insinuations goes straight into nonsense territory. The only lack of creativity here is your own failure to divert away from shlocky conspiracy theories to make your argument.

I watched this one--at least until I finally found the Obama clip. It's basically a political ad against the healthcare reform bill. It's a bunch of very brief sound bites from politicians, journalists, pundits and who knows who else mostly deploring the size of the bill.

The clip from Obama on the campaign trail has him saying something like, "--we'll have the negotiations televised on C-Span, so people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies."

Again, I would remind you that we've had many tens (if not hundreds) of hours of televised debate on this bill already, and we will probably have much more. I don't think there's any big secret conspiracy going on.

We all know full well what concessions were made, especially to the insurance companies, to get them and the Blue Dogs to buy into this thing.

I cited on several of these threads documents from the House committee investigation into the practice of rescission and post-claim underwriting where industry representatives basically agreed that they can end that practice [and the practice of not covering pre-existing conditions or not covering high-risk people] if and when a reform bill including an individual mandate passes.

It's an ugly compromise to make, but apparently it's necessary to improve things at all--in particular to extend access to healthcare to millions of people who have no access or extremely limited access right now.

libs reply:
1. Those videos are faked
2. Candidate Obama could not promise transparency in Congress since that violated the separation of powers
3. Just because POTUS Obama is "figuratively" the head of the Democratic Party, doesn't mean that Democrat Pelosi would give him the time of day.

Oh too bad, that you're wrong on all three attempts.

Pretty much whenever you have to supply your opponent's argument, you're really arguing against a strawman.

Cicero's position is that even though Obama's power over Congress is limited by the separation of powers, the fact that he is the party leader (which is not factually true) trumps that limitation on his authority. It clearly does not.

Oh, I agree. I think Obama is the leader of the Democrats at this time but that in no way translates into being able to force his will into Congress. I don't blame him or Pelosi for what they have done.

Parky76,

I don't want the government putting a chip in me that will allow them to potentially track me wherever I go. I don't think it's necessary, especially when I have not committed a crime.

What happens if you refuse? Will you be arrested?

Also the term "head of the Democratic party" or "leader of the Democratic Party" usually refers to the DNC chairman, Tim Kaine (who replaced Howard Dean).

Obama hasn't denied anything. What the righties are apparently upset about is that Obama hasn't used his Fascist Iron Fist and bent the Congress to his will.

At this point I don't think he really needs to even if he tried. With congress voting his way and 60 vote majority in congress he can pass just about anything he wants; well... as long as he can chip in a few sweet deals anyway...

Had Obama promised levitating cars (and still won) the righties would be complaining about that broken promise too, in all seriousness.
Luckily Obama, and the democratic majority congress are a little more down to earth. Obama promises change that's a bit more in line with something that can use political momentum.

Are you a piece of medical equipment?

I think if you wear a tinfoil hat it disables the CIA's ability to track you.
:p
