I watched this one--at least until I finally found the Obama clip. It's basically a political ad against the healthcare reform bill. It's a bunch of very brief sound bites from politicians, journalists, pundits and who knows who else mostly deploring the size of the bill.
The clip from Obama on the campaign trail has him saying something like, "--we'll have the negotiations televised on C-Span, so people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies."
Again, I would remind you that we've had many tens (if not hundreds) of hours of televised debate on this bill already, and we will probably have much more. I don't think there's any big secret conspiracy going on.
We all know full well what concessions were made, especially to the insurance companies, to get them and the Blue Dogs to buy into this thing.
I cited on several of these threads documents from the House committee investigation into the practice of rescission and post-claim underwriting where industry representatives basically agreed that they can end that practice [and the practice of not covering pre-existing conditions or not covering high-risk people] if and when a reform bill including an individual mandate passes.
It's an ugly compromise to make, but apparently it's necessary to improve things at all--in particular to extend access to healthcare to millions of people who have no access or extremely limited access right now.
